Watched a skunk and a doe on a collision course and learned two things. That doe dropped her head about six inches and when she raised it back up she was about six feet in the air twelve feet away, impressive jump from a casual trot. And when your cold, trying to hold in laughter will warm you up. Pretty boring sit for the most part today. Back at it tomorrow all day sit.

You have to switch something up man.... Go to a different chunk of public land. You know what to look for, just go do it. You’ve seen 2 deer all year in all of the hours you’ve put in. You should be seeing more than what you are for as much work/time you are putting in. I understand it’s big woods and all, but you deserve to see more deer than you have so far.

So I was thinking. Jim's situation and so many of our own is such a gamble. I had little guys on my cam an hour before i managed to get set up today. I wouldn't have shot any of them but still they were there. I love what I do but sometimes when our experiences go badly or we near miss or he just wouldn't turn and so on, we come away feeling like our prom date left us for the dude with the stupid hair and the mustang. And sometimes sitting there dejected, that other brunette shows up. Wowza!

I love it and will be back out tomorrow when the wind shifts. Plug your own scenario in and keep grinding. I appreciate you guys and gals victories, struggles, near misses, lucky hats, watches, knives and boonies. I enjoy the shared agony and elation. I love the pics of blood, ribbing jokes and silly crap. I think of all of you as my extended hunting family, shower pics, grumpy uncles, deer slaying sisters, pot smokers, and all!

Also to my fellow veterans out there, thank you for what you do or did, and enjoy the weekend.

    - Eric.

Illinois public land today saw a bunch of deer 13 does and 5 bucks. Had a buck that I would have shot chasing does but didn't give me a opportunity. Anyway I have no cell service to post from the tree so my updates will come live from the motel room. Good luck
