Look in the creek if you don't find him just inside the wood line. May have even washed down stream to that first sand bar

Blue line is property line although I can go on the neighboring place to retrieve a deer if necessary

Creek doesn't look deep, could be an outdated map, but I'd get in there and look for tracks. Might be able to keep you out from bumping him and at least narrow down if he crossed or not.

I'd be following a blood trail if I was in your shoes (I'm not the smartest tool in the shed though). I wouldn't be able to handle it.

I agree CLS that I don’t think he crossed the river. It is really high and running pretty good from all the rain we’ve had so it’s not easy for a healthy deer to cross right now let alone a wounded one. But if he did get to the river it’s going to be tough to find him if he gets swept downstream. It is extremely thick along both sides of the river

You have anyone else going back out with you? When are you planning on heading back?

Okie if that buck was shot in the guts, I would bet he went straight to the creek. If left alone, he will be dead in it or on the side of the bank. If you can't find any blood, I would go and walk that entire creek.

Just got set up for the evening. Wind whipping but I'm in a little valley so not too bad. Just stopped raining after about 20 hours straight. Pressure riding temps dropping. Feels like a killin' kind of day.

Good luck! I am betting he is dead in or next to the creek or the woods and the same side as the shot. Good luck!

Good luck Okie. Keep an eye on anything in the river that could tangle up a deer body. I found a buck a few years ago that got swept down river into a dead tree. Would have been really easy to walk right by.
