Security cover plays a big role for buck travel where I hunt, rut or no rut.

I have always had good activity in the Wabash river valley with similar topography. All those ridges and tangles, bucks would cruise the tops of that trying to catch wind via thermals or actual wind of does in heat. Not knowing anything else about the area (food sources, etc) based off the pics it just looks rutty to me.

I’m having the best sit I have ever had on PA state land, 4 different bucks so far none of which have been legal and one doe. Is anyone else pulling an all day sit?

Had about six does with about six fawns come through in small groups. Got rained on now I’m wet and cold.

I'm sure it still applies here as well, they tend to love the tall CRP areas during the rut probably for this very reason, rather than cross a cut ag field.

It's beginning to become a new ball game around here. This time several years ago(5+), I used to be able to see 40-50yds into the woods and green shrubs were around but not overly abundant. Now I am lucky to see 10yds into the woods and all the shrubs are still green leafed. Does aren't having to search for browse anymore. Seems more like 2nd week of October rather than the 1st of November.

That and more, two stands I sit have honesuckle at the base. Have does and fawns come up and eat the leaves every now and again, but all the shrubbery in general.

We might see accumulating snow Thursday night(probably more NW on N side of IL river), really early here regardless. I probably still wouldn't have any better visibility into the woods with a white backdrop.

also, despite what someone posted earlier about military crests and all that, I can't stand sitting anywhere but the tops of ridges being able to look down the valley -and- across the top. Bucks will cruise both. I used to set up at the military crest and get tortured by all the deer I could only hear and not see on the ridgetop behind me. Of course, probably 90% of those "deer" were gray squirrels, but what the eye cannot see the mind imagines.

If there's a hot doe in the area, a buck will let nothing deter him from getting to her, cover or not. Right wind or not.

When hunting a military crest, your supposed to face the hill. The buck's run will be on the 2/3 mark up the hill. he travels on the leeward side of the hill where the wind will blow over the hill and he can catch the thermals rising from the valley below.

BUT..... I don't see deer, LOL so take it for what it's worth!

Got to my spot only to see the freaking Amish walking down the road. I'm sure not one animal is alive after those idiots were around. At least my spot is so deep they won't be there. I wont have service so I'll update at dark.

It's long range forecast so take it with lumps of salt. Anything past 3 days is always subject to changes. Typically unless strong high pressure pushes against it, a stronger low will track more poleward to the NW.
