Not a leaf, definitely reflective and it even goes back into the muscle blood. Zoomed in a bit, only circled the stuff outside the blood, but you can tell everything around it is dirt ground

One thing I have been leaning towards is a single lung shot. This is a spot where the pooling blood in his lung caused a cough up of coagulating blood and he stepped forward bleeding on it.

Mike is going to have to pick up the trail in the morning.. no luck tonight

“Had great blood for a few hundred yards dried up lost the trail grid searched and pushed something outta there... anything passed when I searched is another guys property... will have to go back tomorrow.. debating probably hanging up the bow for a while...”

Perhaps it’s just a weird reflection, due to the dirt. It’s all bright red on the leaves, but if you look at some of the leaves on the ground, especially the little brown one on the left, you can see where the bright red immediately tapers off to the black looking color in the dirt. I don’t see any black stuff on the leaves, so I’d chalk it up to the lighting or something.

That sucks, doubting what he pushed was his deer IMO.

Backing out is a good thing. Not sure why he didn't want to post up in the thread, we aren't giving him a hard time on anything but what happened last season. It's all in jest.

Sounds like he may have been hunting fairly close to a property line he does not have permission to cross? That should also enter the equation whether to back out or pursue, don't want to push it where he cannot go.

This isn't coming down on him or questioning anything he did. I ask questions and offer opinion in a learning experience for myself.

There are a lot of knowledgable people in this thread, 99% of who are not emotionally attached to a hunters current situation. A lot of advice can be had during the few hours waiting to pick up the track without the excitement of the moment skewing things.

I hope he doesn't feel like people won't offer up advice or encourage him over a bit of ribbing.

I guess that could be, I see what you are saying. Weird how we can become convinced on one thung looking at it and then another opinion is offered and it changes your own thinking

Definitely muscle blood involved which fits his shot description.

If I wasn’t already in bed I’d be grabbing my grizzly and coors light to join this party.

Good luck on the recovery Mike... don’t leave us hanging tomorrow morning please.
