Back at it after a miserable, wet morning. Little 6 just came in and checked the scent. Already a good sit, 3 doe in the field above me also. Congrats on the bucks guys!

HOLY CRAP!!! I just saw a mountain lion walk by!

A squirrel started barking while I was texting my brother and I thought he had picked me off. I noticed he was looking behind me and I caught movement.

At first I thought it was a dog or a yote but the color wasn't right. Then I saw the head and the tail. Definitely s cat and as big as a large breed dog.

Maybe I do need to start carrying my pistol.

I'm pretty stoked. That's the first one I've ever seen.

That's kind of awesome! Can you get a tag?

He was probably thinking to himself "Man I just saw a LittleChief, that's the guy that has killed half the deer in TN on a weekend!"

I have no idea about a tag but he was well within range when I saw him. Eerily enough he had walked right behind me and was only 10 yards away when I saw him.

How does an animal that size move without making a sound?

    That was freaking awesome!

Although there are no hunting or trapping seasons for mountain lions in Missouri, the “Owner May Protect Property; Public Safety” rule specifies that mountain lions may be killed under certain circumstances:
    (6) Mountain lions may be killed without prior permission if they are attacking or killing livestock or domestic animals, or if they are threatening human safety. Any mountain lion killed under this rule must be reported immediately to an agent of the Department and the intact mountain lion carcass, including pelt, must be surrendered to the agent within twenty-four (24) hours.

Shoot, Shovel, Silence. Not sure avout MO regs, but here in IL they used to be unregulated by the IDNR so you could shoot them without breaking a state law. The caveat to that is the Eastern Cougar is on the federally protected list and the only way to know which you shot is through DNA.

They have recently been put into IDNR protected here and can no longer legally shoot one regardless.

Just giving a heads up in case you wanted a mount or something, would suck to get caught up in that tangled web.
