no, but big feet+heavy boots+old hips = trip risk on a little platform

If the wind is only supposed to be 1-3 mph should I still take it in to account when picking my spot for tomorrow's hunt ?

    Random thought for the night....

Ever wonder if hunters in the old days found their way to the stand with oil lanterns or headlamps with candles?

I think we overcomplicate things sometimes, a little food for thought

Terrain would probably be the bigger factor. Thermals and scent pooling.

Yea I'm not sure about all that. I'm just trying to avoid hunting the same stand Sat. Night and Sunday morning, but i should probably do that rather than hunt a bad wind right?

The answer is probably more of a situational thing.

Where I hunt, I try to hunt the wind but after a few hours I realize it has blown 360 degrees and I have no clue what is going to happen.

Sitting a stand waiting is way different than hunting a certain buck.

Moving in on a buck you'll have to take temps, terrain, thermals, winds and distance into account.

I don't do any of that yet, I'm spoiled by travel routes and private land. If I remain patient something will walk by eventually.

your timing is impeccable. I have been drinking and binge watching (or is it the other way around?) MeatEater on Netflix tonight and there is an episode where he and his buddy are in Alaska sitting/cooking around the fire talking about life and just that. Specifically about hunting/living before flashlights, but then naturally into things we think of as necessities but are really just conveniences and even how that classification is debatable. Just how little of the crap we want we actually need.

I'm guilty as hell in this regard. I've said it here and elsewhere, but something that continues to ring in the back of my head...my favorite and yet at the same time most hated movie quote of all time-

"the things you own; end up owning you."
