Out with my younger boy. He never really took an interest in hunting till he was 16. Now at 18 we are looking for deer number 1. [IMG]

Checking in. Late on the response. Once I got the camera all set up and I was ready a buck came by. I spent about 8 minutes filming him. Really nice 9 pt. that will be really good in a couple years then a doe and fawn came by. Been busy filming.

    Good Luck to everyone!

I go back to work on the 12th, best day of the year

Cough, cough caught a nasty cold while exposed to the elements all week.

I believe those days about as much as fortune cookie lotto numbers. Would make more sense if they broke it down as best 7 days by region. A lot of Southern states won't benefit from those dates, and northern states will likely be earlier as well.

I'm confident in the 2nd - 11th off. And I am going to kill 2 mature bucks in that 10 day stint to prove it.

So I bought some tinks Estrus to put some wicks out. I'm still skeptical on the urine thing, but regardless it is another layer of cover scent IMO. If it works great, if not I tried. I have had young bucks walk up and smell wicks, but they didn't do anything more than sniff and walk off.

I definitely believe in a hot doe as I think everyone does. Always hear of a lot of people using tarsals glands from the rutting buck they killed.

Why don't you hear just as much about tarsals from a doe? I've watched a doe pin her knees and pee in a scrape, wouldn't her tarsals be as good or maybe better than a bucks? I get the dominant buck thing, but a hot doe is better than any scent or call on the market. I've yet to witness a doe mated from stand, but if given the chance I may take one after being bred and save tarsals etc. to hang from a few limbs just to try.

So do Fords only breed with Fords and Chevies with their kind? Should I lock the truck in the garage on the 24th?

Yeah, I'm not sure what that meant either.

    Just said,

"The main event is over in most of the country, but the biggest bucks are still on the prowl. Now's the time to grit your teeth and wait out a giant."

So antler size, not maturity or cycling does, dictates rut phases.

I agree on the lotto and the region.

I'm hoping to do the same thing Clint!

    Good Luck to ya!

Yep, good luck as well. Still a week away but will be over before we know it. As long as my back holds out I'm planning 10 straight dark to darks, aside from horrendous weather.

At last shooting light I had a momma and two fawns came by at 50 yards. Got caught in the stand until way after dark. Had two other deer come by after dark. Plan on going out in the morning.
