Rutcation started 20 minutes ago. For the next week, I will be pulling plenty of all day sits. First time specifically using vacation time solely for hunting and hoping it pays off!

On the ground again tonight. Small strip of cut beans/corn field in front of me. South/South east wind in my face. Pretty steady mist/rain so I’m gunna be wet. View of where I’m sitting and pano of the view. Fingers crossed.

I haven't seen anything either. Hunting hardwoods in October is always tough. Normally I have something come by right at last light.

Well here we go, get ready for a lengthy read guys. This hunt started Sunday morning when we rolled into camp around 5:30am. The other guys in the group had been here since Saturday morning so they had stands hung and were getting ready to hunt. Me and jay were so jacked up that we unloaded the truck and went straight to an area that we wanted to scout to glass fields at first light. We saw some deer but nothing that got us excited so we put boots on the ground and hung a couple stands in decent looking spots. Needless to say we were in the wrong areas, it was a huge piece of public with a lot of foot traffic from all sorts of utter hunters. After two sits we pulled out sets and headed to 2 very small pieces in absolutely the middle of nowhere. And right away we knew we were in THE spots. Between Monday night through Wednesday night I saw 12 bucks and six of which were shooters, our goals were 100 inches or better for our first public trip. Going back and forth to these properties from our rental lodge we saw 3 deer pushing 170 and 6-8 that were 120 or better all within one mile of our properties. I saw a big 150s ten pt the first morning I sat one of the new sets and he was the deer I set my mind to and wanted nothing else! Wednesday we hung a new set for Jay in a big river bottom at noon and he shot a gnarly buck at 6:15 Wednesday evening. The shot was marginal so we let him lay over night just to be safe and Thursday morning after I hunted we found him in his second bed 150 yards from the stand! So Thursday afternoon comes around and I can’t get the big 10 out of my mind. On the way to the property I made my mind up that I was going to hunt a different stand to more or less get my mind right and start fresh on my third to to last sit. I climbed up at 3:45 got situated and was just taking it all in and at that moment I realized how lucky of a man I was. I started thinking about home, my wife and kids and just how truly blessed I was. I then looked down at my phone and it was already 4:45 (I think I fell asleep). I then looked down the trail and there was a doe walking up, then a button buck, then at 5:15 I looked deep in the timber and saw my buck coming and knew right away that if given the opportunity he was coming home to Michigan. This deer came up the ridge stepped on to the logging road and slowly started making his way to me. After the longest 15 minutes of my life he stepped into a 27 yard opening and the rest is history! This deer absolutely turned me inside out and a total wreck. I sat down and for the first time in my life I cried when I saw the deer tip over. This was the most physically and mentally draining hunt of my life and in just 5 seconds from the time I drew to the time the deer fell made every mile, drop of blood from stickers, and every bead of sweat totally worth it! I couldn’t be any happier then I am right now with the outcome of this trip! Posted is my buck and my brother-in-laws buck! Image1540589721.410900.jpg Image1540589754.196255.jpg

Just heard something crashing through the swamp. Was hoping it would come through the funnel. No such luck. Sunset.

Congrats again, heck of a buck and story. Sounds like you had a few "awakenings" on that sit. Hope you're putting him on the wall, he'll make a great looking mount, but the story he retells everytime you see him will continually remind you of what life is all about.

Been put on the stand since around 4pm. Seen 2 small bucks, a doe and 2 fawns. Watched them graze for about twenty minutes and meander off. Gorgeous evening, nice wind direction and clear skies. Time to put the phone away.
