My rule of thumb...if the spots are fine on the fawns, they can survive...and the does are 'in play'.

However, the does also bring the bucks around.

    Choose wisely.

You have any already planned days in early Nov.?

Seeing how things are now, kinda think I picked the right week of the two choices. Only thing not predictable is the weather, wish we could have another repeat of the past week or two.

It's the hunter's choice, and a matter of personal preference. No wrong decision. To each his own!

Had three does step out at last light and that was it for tonight. Boring sit on the stand is still better than a great day at work.

No complaints from me on it, not trying to sway anyone either. I'm good with someone opting to shoot the fawn just as much as shooting the doe.

I just like to point out that fawns are capable of feeding themselves at this stage in life.

nothing tonight for me. was more of a hang and hunt situation. really like the spot but I think it will only get better. there is an absolute hog in this new spot and I think he is killable. there is giant sign everywhere. now I have to figure out a better way to get in there. way to difficult the way I went today.

Image1540259227.780640.jpg Sorry I couldnt give no updates from the field. Doe came in about 550 milled around for about 10 minutes. Gave me a broad side shot about 15yds. Shot a little forward but those Nap spitfires are great first deer I’ve taken with one. Pass through both shoulders doe went about 30yds. Was trying to get her taken care of then go to work texted boss that I needed the night off and got the ok. Taking the day off from the woods tomorrow I’ll be back at it Wednesday. I’ll be following along tomorrow good luck everybody.

new spot. I have only been through this area turkey hunting a couple of times about 15 years ago. I was never dumb enough to consider going way in there for a deer until now. lol I put a cam out tonight and will be taking a few more cams in next trip. put it this way I have never seen a deer track this big in PA. I am going to put my stand back out in one of my old spots since they closed the gates. that spot has had a history of big bucks in years past too. it is a nice feeling to be able to have opportunities for big bucks at every stand now for many years to come.

Another reason why I was hesitant to shoot that doe that I didn’t mention is stand location. That spot is really close to the bedding area of the big deer i’m after, so the last thing I want to do is run him out of there.

CLS brings up some good points. The fawn didn’t have any spots and I’m sure it would survive just fine. There’s also a doe with twin fawns that frequents this spot as well.

Looks like I'll be off the 10th-19th. Trying to go as many long weekends as possible until then. The way it is, when you live 4 and 6 hours away from your spots.
And, my truck was really acting up on the way home. It was a nightmare and I was lucky to make it. So, I gotta get that looked at and maybe even get a new one.

I refrain from shooting does until a buck body hits the ground or rifle season (all bets are off then anyway)....why snuff the original scent factory?

Hope it pays off for ya, gates opening could be a blessing in disguise especially if it's good for what would have been bad winds before finding it.

    Good luck!
