Dead deer, betting you clipped back of near lung and destroyed the liver. Maybe all liver, i hit a doe like that, 2 hours later she was 25yds from the shot and struggling, had to shoot her again.

I bet it's a dead deer. If you popped that diaphragm, it's dead. If just liver it could be dead in minutes or hours.

The buck I shot 2 yrs ago I popped the liver, 2 1/2 hrs later he was dead another 75 yards from the last spot I saw him. About the same spot you hit

    Good luck Bret( VS), congrats

I hope. I heard the sound of small sticks breaking and that hollow sound. I should have crowded that shoulder more but he locked onto me and I was trying to really focus on my back tension and release. Arrow zipped...breaking sound. Hollow sound. And then he spun and ran. I bet liver and or small about of guts plugged wound initially. I'm hoping I get back and within 30 yds he opens up.

The last mature buck I shot in the liver did a full on run in a straight line and died on his feet. He crashed after about 75 yards. Not a lot of blood because he did have enough time to pump it out before he died. When I gutted him, it poured out! He ran straight back to his bed but couldn't make it. I just walked in direction he went, then blood started picking up as I got closer. If guts plugged, then it may be tough. I guess is less then a 100 yards and you will find him.

Not a bad thing! Haha, but yes maybe the little extra focus on the hunting will help you this evening. I think a evening hunt in there may be just what you need for the area.
