Does the blood seem dry? good call hell be waiting for ya when go back for him for sure. I had a liver shot buck a few years ago didnt push him, found him about 70 yards from where the shot was, maybe a little more, Im colorblind so blood trailing was a little tough I mostly had to follow drops

This sleeping in thing is working out good so far! Temps dropped to low 40’s overnight, and rain started around 7am, and looks like it will let up around 2 or 3. Perfect for an afternoon hunt.

Now the question! I have a perfect wind for 2 stands. One is right off the main travel run that I found a few months back (never hunted it in the afternoon)

the other is about 100 yards away from a buck bed, right at a funnel through the thick and nasty. I created a mock scrape/licking branch there in the rain a week or so ago. With it being wet I can get in undetected I believe. the wind is blowing my scent away from the bedding area, (which is good) should I attempt a light grunt? To get him to see who is in his area? To aggressive? Should I save the spot for the rut?

Worst case scenario, I screw up that area.

Dead deer, how long you thinking? 4 hours?

No chance they close the woods on you is there?

Hopefully he's bigger than you think, if anyone puts in the effort it's you.

    It’s settled then! Thanks Finny!!
    Go big or go home!
I’m going to make it happen, rather then hunt a travel corridor and “hope” one goes by. That hasn’t been working out to well for me lately.

I used to hunt over at Conestoga outside of Lincoln. It always amazed me that I would only see two or three other guys out there all season until firearms opened. Amazing considering that it was only 12 miles from town. Had my stands out all season for about 6 years and never had anyone steal them. Let a guy sit on one morning cuz he beat me to it, but on public land that is how it goes. I never wanted anyone to think I was claiming a spot, and we all tried to help each other out when we would bump in to each other.

The only thing that has me really wondering though, is that the bucks here where I hunt are not that aggressive. There is an overload of thick cover, And a high doe to buck ratio. Which leads to very few rubs. The hoof prints, and the **** clumped up in the size of my fist tells the true story though.

That’s why I was thinking of leaning towards a light grunt, near the area where “the new buck” left his mark.

    Am I thinking wrong?

They wont close the area today. He is big. Biggest deer I've ever shot. 120..give or take. I looked at his antlers then focused on his movements. .

Think I may have hit right in here. I had to stop him and he looked at me. 24 shot. 20 yd pin...little low. Little back. Impact sound good and he spun around and ran at impact.[IMG]
