I'd rather go commando than sock-less. In fact I might be right now...

It’s alright, it sounds like you did what you could to find him. If you don’t mind a little constructive criticism, if you make a shot on a deer and are not 100% sure it’s fatal. As in you saw a good hit, and have great blood in the first 150 yards of the trail. It might be best to back out. I think you said earlier you started trailing 15 mins after the shot, and found little blood in 150 yards. You need to give that deer more time to bed down. Atleast an hour, I learned this lesson the hard way last year when I made what I thought was a good shot on a buck, started trailing even though the sign was similar to yours (little blood and hair) and only pushed him farther away.

Anyways, I hope you get another crack at one, good luck this season!

You don't like the built-in bow holder on the LW stands?

It sounds like you made an honest effort to recover your buck, so don't beat yourself up over it. It probably isn't going to be the last deer you lose in your life. Just try to think about it as a learning experience.

If it's a questionable shot in the front of the deer, I leave and come back in 3 hours minimum. If it's a gut shot, the deer will die, and normally not go terribly far if you give it time...minimum of 6 hours on a gut shot. Bigger bucks are simply tougher than young deer. They have more blood and strength and therefore take longer to die. The older I get, the more time I wait before tracking deer. When in doubt, back out.

Every year you learn more and more about deer, hunting, and tracking. It sounds like you learned a lot this weekend. You're a better hunter now. It's ok to feel bad. Now, get out and hunt!

What’s up every body!? I hope I’m not too late to the party. This has definitely been one of my favorite threads since I have joined a few years ago. I have read about every single post and you guys absolutely crack me up which definitely helps pass the days at work. I recognize a few names from both past teams and my current team. I’ve only made it out twice this year both on October 1, saw deer on both sits just no shots. My wife shot a nice doe on Tuesday which is just as exciting for me as killing one myself. I will be out tonight as we have a big front rolling through SW Michigan as I type this, 74 at 4am and 62 right now and I will definitely be live from the stand instead of the work bathroom. Here’s my wife’s doe from Tuesday.

November weather is back here in MN. Possible snow tonight.

I'm sicker than a dog with a bad head cold... Still going to get in the stand this afternoon. Just have to hope my cough tones down a bit as the day goes on.

Afrin for the stuffy nose and a good cough medicine and you will be good to go.

Try the no drip formulation. It's awesome.
