Left the house about 1130. Just getting to the spring. 1.5 hrs for 1.5 miles. Lots of beech nuts up here. Spring has very little water in it but enough to draw them in. Hard to see but there is an old logging road 20 yds in front of me that I found some tracks and droppings on. Have already seen some red squirrels and partridge. Most sign I've seen on the way in. Good luck everyone.
Had my first opportunity of the year on a buck this morning( also my first shot attempt on a deer with a recurve ever). I blew it.. Shot right under him.. Live. Cry. Learn. Move on.
Back in the stand. 81 and no wind. Can’t wait till the hi is 50!!! Just set up my last mock scrap with a camera on it. Now to sit back and wait. Good luck everyone.
Thanks everybody. This was definitely a case where backing out was a good move. When the wind kicked up and started blowing really hard about twenty minutes after the shot I used it to sneak out. Not pushing really paid off, cuz she was nice and close to the last known location. I got the front part of the near side stomach and the back of the offside lung. Judging by how stiff and cold she was, and by the amount of blood in the chest cavity, she was probably dead by the time I got back to town. I'm guessing that if I had tried to track her after I looked at the arrow though, she would have been in the next county.
Back up! 78 with wind out of the east? Not sure but who knows? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I thought last night would be good after the rain stopped but we didn't see a deer. Back in the blind tonight with my daughter for the youth hunt.
Good evening. First hunt of the weekend. Was at Garth Brooks concert in Indy yesterday- he’s fantastic if you’ve never seen him. Highly recommend it.
Back in the stand I killed my buck out of on Tuesday. Similar conditions. Hopefully a similar result. Good luck everyone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I'm back on a tree on my home place. I spent yesterday evening licking my wounds and I slept in this morning to get some rest. It's time to get back at it. The season is still young.
Out for my first sit of the year. Not anticipating too much except a nice relaxing soak in nature. But who knows, anything can happen... Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
If the temps and humidity there are like they are here then "soak" is a very appropriate choice of wording.
