I'm doing the same this evening VS. we have snow on the ground and I wanted to see where the tracks go. Cool shed too! I don't think they've started dropping here yet. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I've had great success scouting after a snow. Really shoes how the deer move. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Kids got snowed out of school today. I have had a trail cam running on private property since late November . Gonna pick it up today and see if it is worth it to hunt out there next year. My son is gonna tag along.
First rule of trail cams. Turn them on. Lol. No pics from my cam today. But we did find these close by.... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
What time is the best time to get out to SCOUT? I have an abundant amount of time on my hand theses days. And lots of snow I usually SCOUT in season! That didn't do so well for me this year I don't want to stress the deer out by kicking them up. There is a good base of 10 - 16 inches of snow on the ground and it's been in single digits to mid teens. It's going to warm up this weekend to 40's Plus I am gonna SCOUT the game lands ( public land ) about 1/2 mile from my place. Any help would be appreciated Thx MUD/ Chris
I'd give them a chance to find some clear ground. They have to be going to eat "somewhere". With that much snow, you might try glassing an area to see if you can find them without bumping them. Check any south facing slopes from a distance, if you can.
I like scouting at this time of the year bc the sign is still pretty fresh and the temps are cold. I hate scouting in the heat and when the bugs are out. If I find a bedding area that has trees rubbed with varying degrees of age (new, 1 yr old rubs, and then older rubs) I know that I will be seeing bucks if I hunt that area from time to time. Finding those areas for me is easier said than done. I might be lucky to pick up 1 to 2 great bedding areas each off season. All I can do is keep adding those types of areas so I can rotate my hunting spots. Also, many of my areas close down during the hunting season due to military training, so I have to have a lot of options in case my plans A, B, and C fall through. Right now I have about 4 to 5 solid rut doe bedding areas. I'd like to get to about 15 in the next few years.
Little creek bottom buck bed. All he needed was a 2 foot high raise in the ground to bed below. Amazing. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
