Went from a high of 72 yesterday to a high of 56 today. Hope the temp drop with light rain last night and overcast today a prime day to be in stand. Last day of hunting for me so let's pray everything falls into place. Good luck to those still grinding out sits with our bows! Sent from my SM-G920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app

Well guys, I decided to see if it was possible to use my Summit Viper with my broken left foot. It's supposed to rain tomorrow morning so when I got home from work I dressed out and made the whole 2 minute walk to my stand behind my house; not so much to hunt but to set up my tree umbrella and test the waters, so to speak. I was very careful to step flat-footed and only bend my ankle. Once I got into my stand I experimented with different footing arrangements and found that if I wedge my right foot in tight and just use the toe of my left foot on the stirrup I can climb totally pain free. I really wanted to bow hunt this weekend, but while I can walk carefully and not do any damage a tough blood trail would be more than I could handle, so I took my 45/70 instead. I have yet to have to find a deer that I've shot with that gun. I had no expectations of seeing any deer since I didn't get up in the tree and set up until 45 minutes before dark, and I have yet to get an afternoon pic of a deer there this year. Well, about 15 minutes before first light I spotted the first deer I've seen in the afternoon on this stand this year. He was a really good 8 point. Not a giant, but he was bigger than any of the other three bucks I've killed this year. Unfortunately he was on the neighbors property. I have permission to track there, but not to shoot. At last light I got down and carefully climbed up the steep point. Just as I got to the top a coyote took off from the bottom of the point which is only about 15 yards away. I think he startled me as much as I startled him. I tried to find him in my scope but couldn't before he ran off. So, I'll be in a tree tomorrow morning with my gun, and if all goes well this weekend it's back on for New Year's weekend. The weather forecast for New Year's weekend is wicked. Lows around 15 and highs in the mid to upper 30s with snow and wintry mix. Could be a lot of fun.
I think if you're successful, you'll find the drag to be the toughest part of your hunt. I don't think your foot will be appreciating your success as much as your brain. haha
Actually, if I shoot one here I can just drive down with the tractor and use the front bucket to pick it up. If it's in the woods I can drag it with my four wheeler. No laws against ATVs in the woods on my property. If the ATV can't get there we always have the horses.
The weather is going to be great all weekend, for hunting, that is! I'll be out tomorrow afternoon! Sent from my SM-N900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
