Interesting....I started hunting at 18 (rifle only), but didn't get serious about bow hunting till I was about 32. I'm 40. There was a 3 year stretch 2012-2015 that I didn't get to hunt for moving and work. Since moving here a year and a half ago...well I'm a bit obsessed.

Lol, yes. I have a very generous uncle who allows me to hunt his 70'ish acres of paradise. No management, plots or ag field edges. Just a lot of woods and large private tracts landlocking him.

All the mounts and the one I am holding(this years) within probably 700yds of each other between 5 stands.

Yes, location is a big part of it. I've shot my fair share of small bucks. I've set my own restriction now. It's my choice and no one elses. I don't judge people on what bucks they choose to shoot. Everyone decides their own trophy. If you're proud of it, don't make excuses. Ef the ones that judge your trophy.

    This right here.

I see bucks during the rut and rut only where I hunt. A lot of travel corridors and doe bedding.

No morning or evening fields to watch deer pile in and out of.

I have enough patience(regardless of what my posts in this thread state  ) to hold out in early November knowing I will have at least one opportunity to see a good mature deer. I just have to be at the right place right time.

I'm a deer killer not a buck hunter, just fortunate to have such a place to do so.

As my newest son-in-law who is from Alabama would say: "God - ah - mighty"! (I can't put the Alabama redneck inflection in there with a keyboard, but you can imagine it.)

I may get there someday, but if I've learned anything in my life it's that it pays to just be happy with where you're at and what you have. You have a great spot there.

What's kinda cool though, the 2 on the left and the one I am holding were killed right here in tgis thread 2013, 2016 and 2017. The one to my left(pic right) I posted a thread, Can't stop shaking, right after I shot him in 2011 before Live from the Stand was here. Think first year for it was 2012.

I don't have those fields that cls talks of either.
I do run quite a few cameras to find what is hanging around. When I find one I'm interested in I try to find where he is most likely to show up at.
I'm now after a few late season big boys that should start coming to the food. There is even a new one that has showed up. It takes time to do it all, but it is something I enjoy. I work on it 365, from habitat to food to trail cameras.
Oh, I'm married with 2 boys that play ice hockey too. We're always busy.

I tried cams, but when they only appear late October to late November hard to act as they are just starting or ending their searching for love.

Add in an hour drive each way just impossible to actually scout.

Steelers game about to start, out for the night.

That's the one advantage of the places I'm fortunate to hunt. The furthest place from our house is 20 minutes.

    It's a lottery, so every 2 or 3 years.

I dont know exact years but i started shotgun hunting when I was around 10 or 12 and started bow hunting with a recurve around 19 or 20.. for years I hunted bow only and it was, if its brown it down.. The last several years I have started to let "little" bucks walk. I am 40 now and have yet to kill what I deem a big buck.. gun or bow.

I have three points. i'll take your spot if you want. two reasons I haven't used them: licenses are way too expensive now and I have no one to go with. so for now i'll just hold on to them until I win the lottery. lol

You may want to buy another point, some of the better areas you may not get a tag with 3 points. I'm also sitting on 5 points ( wasn't paying attention to how many I had, lol) but life has keep me from making a trip. I'm hoping to go in the next year or 2.
