As long as they don't pick me off and bark incessantly, I like having squirrels around for the most part.
Doe and fawn slipped in on my left side . The spike had circled behind me caught sight of said doe and proceeded to chase her over the next ridge. Not sure where the fawn went.
I would agree 9 out 10 times , this morning they sound like 150 lb animals chasing each other around.
Yeah, sometimes they can get your heart pumping and even get annoying, but in my limited experience if the squirrels are moving then there's always a chance the deer are too. I always like to listen to them and pay attention to that sound. On three separate occasions a squirrel scampering across the ground running away from something has alerted me to a buck I didn't know was there. I've also heard them bark at deer. Plus I just think that the squirrel activity puts the deer more at ease.
What's everybody seeing out there? I plan on getting out this Friday before gun season starts here in Iowa. Do I need to be focusing on food and water or are the bucks still out and about?
I wonder if he knows how famous he is now? Just like every small buck shot will forever be know as a Fergie buck... everyone to shoot a deer in this thread will be told "dont be a Mike" or "dont pull a Mike" and if they do they will be labeled a "Mike".
yep found my first buck the next morning he scored a 121” Mike4christ 2016 Bear Escape Easton FMJ 6mm NAP Doublecross
My daughter and I were out this morning, no bucks but we saw 15 different does. Not doe season. She is back to college. I enjoyed my sit with her. She has a 2 1/2 hr drive back. Miss her already. I'm back out, it's so peaceful out here until I hear a rifle crack off.
I thought you hit once, missed 4 times, hit then clicked a spent round? Don't worry, I missed my first buck at 7 yards broadside with a scope. I was shaking so bad I have no clue whether I shot over, under in front or behind him
