Nope. ALL of them are closed again. Can't go after any of those bucks. Set up between 2 thickets with good west wind bedding. Came in blind. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Now we have a basket 4, with a broken side, here. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
SO, A little story and laugh to go with my buck.. That spot is basically a big Y, it has a bottom with hills on both sides that is split in the middle by a hill/ridge that slopes down in the middle of the Y. I was sitting close to the end of the middle ridge on the south side bottom and figured I had a shot at anything coming past me in the bottom on my side or down the ridge in the middle. I could see the bottom on the other side of the ridge but no shots over there. So Im sitting there looking up the bottom Im sitting in and hear something crashing off to my other side.. its a doe running across the end of the ridge, jumping across the creek and up into the bottom on my side.. a second or 2 later I see my buck step up but hes behind trees and saplings and couldnt tell what he was other than he had some bone. He takes a couple of steps forward into a clearing around 40 yards away and stops, by this time I have the Smith and Wesson .44 mag out of the holster and the hammer is back. As far as I know I have no time to study this deer so a super quick glance at his rack, yup, hes not tiny.. settle my sights on his lungs and squeeze one off, KABOOM! He mule kicks like hes trying out for the PBR and runs forward 5 yards and stops.. he is behind saplings again and has trees blocking him.. hammer back again I lean as far as I can, settle my sights the best I can while trying not to fall out of my tree and let it rip.. nothing... I did this 4 more times, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing (missed with all 5). On his own he takes off jumps the creek and stops on my side around at 50 yards, behind trees and saplings AGAIN! I frantic reload and this time lean way out to the right in my stand.. BANG.... BANG.... BANG, on the 3rd shot he hunched up big time and took off again! As I posted before, I smoked both lungs on my very 1st shot and liver on the last. As I see it as long as they are standing, Im going to crank rounds at them and that just what I did! I then go home and get my 4 wheeler, oldest son and dad and we head back to the woods. My boy is almost 6 and wanted nothing more than to help me track a deer this year. He has been "mad" at me for not shooting little bucks so he has something to track.. "but dad, it doesnt matter, just shoot them" lol So we get out there and my boy puts his nose to the ground and he is "here is blood daddy, here is blood daddy, I think its time to drop some toilet paper again" He has a little trouble here and there but grandpa and I help him past those spots. Before we know we are on excellent blood and my little man is really moving now... "wow daddy, he is bleeding good now!" A good 20 yards of the forest painted red and my boy is on top of the deer... "here is your big buck daddy, I found him for you... your welcome" lol I love that kid more than life itself. I had no clue but it turns out this buck is a 10 point we had on trail cam a bunch.. I have seen a couple of way bigger deer hunting this year, but I wouldnt take back my experience shooting him and tracking him with my oldest boy and dad for anything. I am very grateful and will remember this for a very long time! I would also like to say thank you all for your kind comments! Moral of the story.. Kids are awesome and keep cranking rounds even if you miss with 7 of them By the way, this is now one of my favorite pictures ever!
Starts back in july when this guy started hanging around. He disappeared in Sept for most of the month. I have had 3 run ins with him in the stand. Neighbor ran him off once on his 4 wheeler, gas well guy ran him off once, and he winded me once. Yesterday once I got in stand within 10 mins of getting set-up a doe came out. She stayed under me for 1 1/2 hrs. A small 6 point ran by me at 10 yds. 3 more does came out around 5pm. They all were feeding in pasture. About 530 they slipped back into woods on neighbors property. Heard something behind me so looked back and had a small doe. I watched her a bit then scanned back in front of me. Off to the east about 100 yds I seen him. He was heading for neighbors property. I started grunting and he turned and started heading towards me on wood line. I lost track of him behind a cut. He disappeared into the woods. I grunted some more and he popped out in front of me a little to the west. He came straight towards me looking. He crossed gravel road and started walking broadside about 25 yds in front of me. I got drawed back and grunted with mouth. He stopped and looked. I released, shot him a little forward but didn't get all shoulder. He ran about 50-60 and laid down to bed. I waited about 45 mins then slipped out. Went back home and called a buddy to help me load him Roll Tide Roll
Back to the truck and off to work. Had a little 5pt at 15 yds and saw 1 lone doe just after sun up at about 200yds. Man, that wind was a killer...It was cutting right through me, needed another layer on. I’ll be back out tomorrow morning. Good luck to anybody else hunting today.
Like the story, awesome time with the boy. That being said lets talk about those "clicks". What was the cause there?
Clicks? Like the time I pulled the trigger and it didn't go bang? Sent from my SM-G935U using Tapatalk
Oh, you mean when I said nothing, nothing, nothing.. I just meant I was hitting dirt, trees ect lol I did try to shoot a 7th round in a 6 shooter lol
Ahhhhh, thought you meant it didn't go boom. I was worried about my ammo at home assuming you use WWB
Oh, no.. it went bang 9 times and I couldnt hear squat for 20 mins after Well, I did hear a very loud ringing lol
Gunshot under 200 yds from where that spike walked. Time to get out of here. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
