Went scouting this afternoon in a new spot and found this. About a 12" tree rubbed. Been nice getting a good head start for next season. 20171117_132754.jpg 20171117_132658.jpg

Assuming this is in SC it has been dark there for a few hours. Either you backed out for the night or you have already recovered and now are playing with our emotions by posting evidence of a whitetail being snuffed out.

Judging from the blood below the arrow, probably working on cutting something up.

One of our crew shot a doe w/shotgun. What do you guys think of this?
This was point of impact, claims he aimed for the shoulder.
Center is a 1" blob of flesh/gelatin type matter. No foul odor to it at all. Surrounded by smaller pieces of the same.

Very little blood after, and unrecovered.[IMG]

Hit No Man's Land maybe? The space above the lungs but below the spine. One my my friends hit a big buck there a few years ago with a .270. Tracked it for hours and lost trail. Coincidentally, the buck came out in a nearby field he was sitting in 7 days later, very skinny and in bad shape, and he was able to take him. I'll try to get a photo of the wound...

Does not exist, you either hit above the spine or you double lung. Anything in between that the deer drops on impact with a paralyzing spine shot.

I believe your friend was correct and hit the shoulder.

Probably a quartering away shot maybe and tore through nonvitals.

Single lung with a shotgun is as effective as a double with a broadhead. The shock alone destroys its impact site.

He either hit way forward, way low or a hard quartering shot.

But it exists above the spine towards the shoulders?

Looks coagulated to me, either not the true POI or that slug was still hot enough to congeal the blood which seems unlikely but I guess possible.

Maybe, but that would be a small void with arteries(jugglars) windpipe, spine and lung.

This image the leg is lifted uncovering some lung that would be behind normally. Would have to be pretty far forward otherwise.

I read about a thousand posts back that the big ones just drop into the back of the truck, or if you're really unlucky, into your lap. Not sure I could hold that much weight in my lap.

I asked before seeing your reply.
I agree, I think it was way forward and just flesh/muscle.
It was broadside so 1 lung is out, and claims she ran off with, what appeared as 4 good legs.
He's no newbie and I trust his description. I found that matter in the blood really odd.
It was a big, mature doe and just really sucks.
    Hope she survives

I hit a buck a couple years ago, had the crosshairs on the lungs when I squeezed the trigger. Watched him mule kick and bolt.

Got down after 15 minutes and found blood 10yds later. 3 yds after found a bone shard and blood dried up 20yds later. He was killed second season, blew a chunk off from his lower leg 5" above the hoof.

I knew what I saw, but wasn't what happened.

Hopefully she lives, I haven't been on a lot of shotgun tracks, they're a whole nother animal.

Well my all day sit was great saw 20 deer today took a shot at a really tall and heavy deer but hit a tree then shot over a does back. But seeing 20 deer with 3 of them being out of the 5 I want to shot and watching them chase does all day was amazing. No hunting tom which is a shame after today. But life is rolling and we go in tom for the ultrasound on boy or girl. So pretty excited and bummed at same time haha. Good luck everyone heading out.

Done with a gun but I'm proud of her! Came in together and she made graet shots on both. [IMG]
