Well my public land Illinois trip has come to a end. It really hard for me to post this but I made a terrible shot on a 140"ish 8pt this morning at 9:00. After shot he ran out of site I did not hear if fall my first thought was I hit him low and back but not in the guts and not liver. When I climbed down to look at the arrow I jumped him he had only went about 100yds and beded down. Gave him 2 hours took up blood it was very thin and and small drops. Found his second bed very little blood after that bed no blood at all. Blood at impact but no blood on arrow white hair every. I'm sick.
Looks and sounds like liver if that is where. Bedding down could have clogged him up. Betting that deer is dead, usually want to give a liver shot 6 hours.
0 deer today. 3 of us on our 80 acres saw 0 deer. No idea what to think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wells that's it for bow hunting for me for a while. Gun season next weekend which I don' really care about but still do. I will be back bow hunting after gun season though for some late season action. Season goes til Jan 6th or something.
Starting to wonder how much rutting went on under the moon. Still think its a bit early for lockdown, but it's one of those things where you can't get into late November expecting the rut is just peaking. Can't really go with the temps as we've had more cool days than hot. I seen chasing and seeking yesterday, but I have only seen 3 mature bucks from stand. Seen 4 does yesterday, one was beig chased by a spike and the other 3 were grouped up, one was a fawn and one was an adult but only caught glimpses of the third. I didn't see any button bucks, just spikes and forkies or basket 1 1/2 year olds. Only seen one 2 1/2 year old. Was a weird one for sure.
I still think shotgun season here is going to be big. I don't know how many permits were issued, guessing they cut numbers again, but have a feeling mature bucks will still be on their feet during daylight.
Did find out we had a bear come through after we got in our stands this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cls is right. If it is the liver, come back in the morning, if you can. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Got super close to killing a booner tonight. Was on ground in a brand new spot on the farm I hunt. In a brushy hub where 5 fingers come and meet. Buck was in the ditch and couldn't get a clean shot at vitals. Had a neck shot but not taking that shot. Would have been buck #3 and 2 back to back. That's hunting!! So who is hunting tomorrow with me?? I’ll be posting a BBD by 9:30am Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I made it 6 hours in the stand this morning before the wind chilled me to the bone and only saw a single doe... My buddy hunted another of my stands about 400 yards North of mine and watched as a really big 8 chased 2 does around him for an hour without ever coming into range. No Sunday hunting here so I'm hoping I can sneak out of work on Monday and catch up with him. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
