Hey Adam! Hang in there! I think you did all you could! I know it sucks but sleep good knowing you gave it everything you had. Good luck!

You did an awesome job sticking with it and seeing it to as far as you could possibly go. I bet if that arrow was a 1/4" to the right, you would have had a dead deer within eyesight of your stand. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Too bad it had to happen on the biggest deer of your life, but you will definitely see another deer as big as him, so keep your hopes up and remind yourself that you're doing all the right things even to see a deer that big and get him that close. You did awesome!

An aside, the penetration was strange on that deer with the arrow flopping to one side. Most likely it was from hitting the shoulder, but you should probably take a few target shots with broadheads to make sure everything is functioning correctly.

That’s funny coz I was about to post this.

Yesterday this buck came out. Not looking for an age but my question is do you think this buck is old and losing it or young and gaining. I really like the look of it and I’m tempted to shoot him. I think he is old and losing it, but I’m no good at the aging part yet. If he’s gaining I will pass.

Those pics look like a paint by numbers watercolor picture.. lol I would guess he isnt old, 2 1/2 maybe 3 1/2. Just a guess and hard to tell from the pics. Looks like his back is flat, no gut sagging and his neck doesnt go down to his brisket.

I'm saying gaining, English. No sway back or pot belly and his legs still look fairly long.

It's so hard to try and age a buck once their necks swell up during the rut... just my observations from the pics... I don't think he's old to the point of going down hill, still has that "race horse" body, no swayed back or big belly. I don't think he's that young either, kind of looks like he's got the "roman" nose. I would say he's maybe a year away from his prime. Might just not have real great genetics for growing a huge rack.

I am getting ready to try my new trick. Some guys use complaining about wind, temps etc... to pull in a deer. Thursday right before I shot my doe, I got my jacket out to put on. Never got the jacket on before I shot! Here goes nothing!!!

I know how you feel happened to me on Tuesday. Almost everything identical he would have been my biggest buck. I’m in the same stand and every time I look where he was I get pissed at myself. Like everyone has said get back at it you never know what’s coming. Good luck.
