Yesterday's hunt was such an awesome and horrible experience! I'll try to explain in 3..2..1.. I had this guy at 20 yards, quartering to me, upwind, 430 pm, 5 degrees, near windstill. By far the biggest buck I've had within shooting range or even just viewing range. He came in after I grunted and can called, blindly. Bow in my hand, release locked on d-loop...waiting. I think he could see my heart pounding through my 3 layers because he kept eyeing me. Every tiny movement/sound, he would look right at me. I didn't think he would come any further so I decided to draw the next time he turned his head. My hand was so cold I couldn't feel my bow and there was frost forming on the grip. He turned, I drew..not quiet enough. He caught me, turned and was behind the brush before I even get to full draw. He slowly slips back into the thick trees. Once he's out of sight, I hit him with another grunt and can call. 3 minutes later...he's back, but a lot more cautious. He stays in the thick stuff and tries to get downwind. Too thick, he turns and leaves again. Once he's out of sight again, I hit him with another grunt and can call. Nothing this time. Then I grunt and rattle. Nothing. Then I try the can call again. Sure enough, here he comes again! Same route in the thick stuff behind me, except this time he finds a way through and ends up on the trail I used to get to my stand. He smells the estrous from my scent drag and comes in slowly. I knew it would only be a matter of time before smelling me since he was so cautious and directly down wind of me. It happens and he backs out slowly and leaves for good. My hindsight has been beating me up ever since. I should've drawn back before he even stepped out. I should've just waited longer to see if he would keep coming. I should've gotten down and moved before calling again. I should've gotten down and moved before calling him a 3rd time. On and on it goes... But seriously...what a freaking rush! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Just got back to the truck, good news no blood crossing the road, here’s a still shot of his mule kick from my camera Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I was thinking the same. With how I seen the bucks moving around 9am figured this stand should have them cruising right by and ain't seen one out.
I️t sounded good, going to stay wayyy out in the corn and glass the hedgerow Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
All honesty, unless the arrow stayed in and did some major damage that doesn't look promising. Only hope shot angle was better than camera angle
This is what makes us wake up hours before dark, forego sleep, drink too much coffee, and go insane battling the elements. Awesome man. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Me either.. Mtn Dew for the win! Sure would have liked a cup of hot chocolate when I was hunting this morning tho.. I was cold
Well no sense in dwelling on my miss this morning. Back in a tree at the other end of the property hoping for a little redemption tonight. We'll see what happens. Good luck fellas!
My wife probably occasionally wishes I️ would... she knows how much life Insurance I️ have...lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's impossible, it's just too windy to kill a deer! I'm starting to think that it's good luck to talk about negative hunting conditions on this thread. I need something bad to happen so I can complain tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Don’t drink that either...lol...mostly water for me these days...had to make some life changes over the last year due to health reasons, too young for that ****... all water or tea, and occasionally a diet soda or a beer... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Be prepared for some serious complaints on here when I wake up. The worst. And I'm going to get some Steelers crap from my soon to wear in the woods for good luck. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I can handle some sweet tea.. but have a hard time with water, I need some flavor (and sugar)! I hope you have it under control and are doing better.
