He was not a giant to some.. but he was to me. By far the biggest I ever let an arrow go on. This is him >>>
I hate to say it but I’m heading that way. So the white mark is my tree stand and and the red is the shot to the arrow. Now as I was leaving there is a buck stood looking at me on the blue line and I don’t know if he is the same 1 (I fear it was coz that’s the direction the red leads 2) he snorts and doesn’t run but more walks away in that direction while snorting so this is about 2hrs after the shot and I would think if he is injured he wouldn’t go far since it’s his leg. So I just walk over to where he was stood to see if I can find blood and of course I look for 10 min no blood. So I continue to walk out and I see another deer on the yellow line and I don’t see more then eyes and it doesn’t snort and runs away like I would expect so I think it was a doe. I’m going to go home and I guess I will be back nice and early. I’m not sure but I have a 12mth labrodor who I have been work on a little to find sheds I think I will bring him just in case. I’m also going to go to Walmart to try that peroxide trick. I’m going to need it.
I know it's easier said than done but do what you need to to get some sleep. I went through a similar scenario last year on my biggest and found him over a mile later. Keep your spirits up, it ain't over yet. Be darn sure to have your bow ready and scan to the sides of the track in case he is watching his back trail. Best of luck to you. I've said this quite a bit lately. Be patient. Look high and low. Take your time. It's easier to read the book in the daylight. Best of luck. I know I took several breaks the weekend we looked for my buck. It helped a bunch! Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Good luck Englishman. Hope it works out! I have to get a project done before end of week. Was supposed to be off but this project cannot wait. Today was brutal and tomorrow's weather forecast is lining up identical with today, so off to work I go! Hope to be back out Thursday til I get it done! Good luck tomorrow everyone heading out! Only saw one little fork horn tonight with my dad and som. To top the evening off, I shot the crossbow bolt into a target when I got home to decock it. Strings and cables derailed. This is after PSE already sent me a replacement when they recalled the model a month before season started. Probably not even 200 shots through it. And then when I got home the motor on the washing machine decided to go out and start smoking. So tomorrow will be spent buying a new washing machine and on the phone with PSE. Just glad it didn’t happen when one of my boys was shooting it. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Ok this is my bag of tricks. 1st im Pulling my cameras I have at my house and I’m going to stage them in the area marked blue 5 total, then I’m going to walk the yellow lines to push any deer to them and then check the cameras. If this doesn’t show him then I will start the search like a normal track and using peroxide. If I get to the point that I have no blood for over a hr then I will get the dogs. I’m going to take both my dogs, Labrador 12mth old and Germany shepherd 3yr both with no blood tracking experience and Start a grid search. If you guys think of anything else that can help or see a problem with the above let me know. I will be setting my alarm to get me there at sunrise.
I still have my compound that I can hunt with but nothing for my boys until this is resolved. The only reason I bought the crossbow was for them. They are old enough to hunt but too young and not strong enough to pull the required draw weight on a bow.
I wouldn't go to desperate measures yet. If you get too many feet in the area, you may disturb the blood trail. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Sounds like a great plan and I hope you find him dead before needing half of it. Good luck big guy. Sent from my SM-G935V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
@Englishman I am betting he will be bedded or dead near one of the water holes. I one-lunged my buck last weekend at I found him along the river that runs the edge of the property.
