That flying squirrel was crazy! I was sitting in the tree saddle tonight in the y of a tree. I felt something hit my back, almost like somebody smacked my back. I just thought it was a falling branch. Look over my shoulder and see its big eyes staring at me only a foot away from my face! It jumped off me right away and glided down into the dark. Its been 30 years since the last time Ive seen one.
The buck I shot at this Wednesday was a new deer that I never seen before. I checked a camera tonight and he was on it almost every day since Wednesday. I got pics of him the same day I shot at him that same evening right at dark. If I was hunting that evening, I could have had a second chance. I believe this was him, no monster but a good buck for the area I was hunting. Most pics were bad but this was the best pic I got of him.
Only rattled twice. First time I clashed them together the tip of main beam smashed my pinkie just under the nail, left an instant blood blister nd hurt for a good bit. Secomd time I clashed them that same damn tip hit the same damn place, this time it broke the skin and busted the blood blister open. That one hurt like the ****ens and is still pretty tender. Rattling is off the agenda until I get a set big enough to safely rattle with. Need something like Lakosky uses. Hold them out chest high and the tines are a solid 12" above your head
I am so looking forward to elk season next year. These pics are really poor, but I haven't figured out how to get good pics with the new phone. The first one is the result of a rutting bull from this September, the second from my view this evening, and the last is the 6 x 6 that came in at 80 yards last Sunday. I only have an antlerless or spike tag for this area.
So had one deer unknown age and size walk edge of corn field and spent the rest of the sit with a dead phone and 2 buttons running around trees. Best selfies ever. Look close.
Turns out I made a good shot. She went 50-60 yards. But better to wait then push! Second deer ever! It was awesome
