Supervisor and plant manager were just standing behind me at my machine scheming on something. 7 hours until my vacation and I'm like
Great buck haydo... Everyone else there is not enough killing going on in this thread...I’m stuck at work and having to live vicariously through everyone... and well right now I feel like I’m getting skunked... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I hear you ! I start my "rutcation" next Tuesday. I have 4 days to get r done before the orange army invades! Hope I timed it right for once!
Congrats Haydo! Great looking 10 pt. Let's hear the story! I snuck out and I'm back to work. It's 20 degrees plus in temp from yesterday. Just crazy, wish it was the other way. Good luck all! Doesn't look like many on stand this morning.
Unfortunately the temps are getting to 70 today so I won’t be coming in late to work or sneaking out early today Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Didn't hit it this morning when temps were decent. Took the wife to breakfast. Gonna hit it at 75 degrees this afternoon on a spot I havent hunted all year. By a small creek near some hills. Great trail flowing through it. Just need a buck to walk it. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
A few days late on this. Here is the buck I shot Saturday. Recovered him Monday morning. Unfortunately, coyotes and vultures found him first. The head was all that was left. Haven’t scored him yet. With a new baby at home and getting ready for my parents coming to town, I haven’t had time yet. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm in for the duration today. Beautiful day to be out. Walking in a came upon a 4 point bedded next to the trail. Camera says a nice buck opened the scrape @8:30 this morning. I'm on the inside corner of a corn field. Nice little flat w/ tree tops to the left and scrub apples to the right. I'm in NY so I have tags for anything, including bear. Good luck to those who are out. Sent from my XT1710-02 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
How did you end up finding him? Scavengers, dog, walking the property? At least you can say you found him and honor that lost meat in some fashion. Happens to all of us at some time or another brother.
I went back to look Sunday afternoon after not finding him Saturday. It was a single lung hit. Although, I did not realize it at the time. Sunday afternoon was 35 hours since the shot before I got out there to look again. With only a couple of hours left of daylight, I rushed out to the property to look. I forgot my bow and didn't realize until I was out there. Thinking I was doing a body search and that scavengers had probably already found him, I went ahead and looked. Unfortunately, he wasn't dead yet. I jumped him from his bed before I saw him. He swam across the river and died immediately when he got out of the water. There wasn't enough daylight left to get a canoe and recover him that night. I came back first thing Monday morning. There were at least 40 vultures on him. The head was all that was left. Learned a hard lesson forgetting my bow. If I had it when I jumped him on Sunday evening, I could have shot him twice before he swam the river and taken him home Sunday night. I didn't sleep Sunday night because I was pissed at myself. But, since I was positive that he was dead, I called into work Monday morning. I took a canoe Monday morning to recover the head and burned a tag on him. I figured it was the right thing to do under the circumstances. I will never again look for deer without my bow, even when it has been longer than 35 hours. Still mad about the meat loss because was completely my fault that got wasted.
Wish the temps were better but I'm playing the cards given to me. Picked a stand site out 2 months right on the edge of my friends property. Major game trail....found this right on the trail not 8 yards from my tree. Big tracks in it. We shall see if he slips by before sundown. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
