I think it can be a lot of things.. a lot of people just find a hobby they like more, some people that kill monsters all the time can get bored with it and some people that never kill big deer can get discouraged. Myself, I still have as much fun today as I did 30 years ago.
Not far either lol in northwestern IL. But I know Mazak Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We only have one mazak, not my forte'. Been hiring a lot of contract workers lately. Doubt many stay long, few of them talking about when Houston area plants get back up and going money will be there. I can't give up my passions here. Deer, morels and weather
Me and you are on the same page lol enough hijacking this thread with lame work talks. 30 hours baby Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Straight honest answer here... A lot of people much older and experienced than you have had a "hard" go at hunting (going months or even years without seeing a thing or having an opportunity at a deer). Going years or months instead of days at a chance at a buck is trying on a guy. Not sure how old you are but you sound young and are posting about "next week is the week I hit Wisconsin and then I'm off to Iowa. After that I'm headed to Illinois, followed by a Kansas rut hunt." Obviously an exaggeration but a vast majority of us have a small tract of land to hunt all season long unless we hit public (which a large majority of us do, but know how much harder that is). Even at that most of us have full time jobs and families that don't allow us to take time off to specifically hunt deer. It does get depressing or boring sitting day after day, hour after hour and not seeing a single deer. I don't care who you are but if you sit in a stand for 3+ days straight and not see anything you're going to get down on yourself. I would love to be set up in a prime spot with my feet up in the tree with my Sitka gear but I just simply can't do it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I still don't think depressed and bored are the correct terms for even what you describe. More like "discouraged and defeated" or "not into it this year, maybe next". I can relate to those circumstances. But bored and depressed are terms I would never use. Probably just a terminology/definition issue, hope it isn't that level for most of us.
Yup.... 100% I have not seen a deer on stand for the past season and a half. The Midwest is unlike any other place in the country when it comes to hunting, you truly have no idea how fortunate you are until you walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. You have already killed more wall hanger bucks this season that I have in my entire life. I’m 41, started hunting when I was 14. Location location location I will say it till I’m blue in the face. Come hunt public land in Connecticut and let’s see how quickly you become bored. I grew up hunting this way, and still love it, but it is very trying and yes boring sometimes. I was fortunate to have experienced the Midwest rut for 3 seasons in Illinois. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This makes sense, however it's a little off. I don't have a lot of land. I have a small foodplot and 2 stands at my house that I put in to draw local deer. My dad leases an 80 acre parcel about 3 hours from my house. I'm blessed and fortunate enough to be able to hunt each day somewhere. But no matter what, I'm not going all over the country to big private farms. My dad has a buddy with a 26 acre place in southwest Wisconsin. My point is this. I am only guaranteed to hunt in my yard. That's it. The rest is year to year and it's never a sure thing. I shouldn't have even said going to different states, but my point was not to sound like an arrogant d bag. I was simply explaining that I still am fortunate enough (this year) to be able to still have time left in a tree. That said, I live in a pretty good area overall. I live in northern Illinois year round. I agree with the location point of view that maybe that could get boring if you literally see next to nothing each year. I hate uneventful sits in a cold stand as much as the next guy. But it's one of the rare moments that it comes together that keeps me excited and full of anticipation. Good luck today everyone. It's November 2nd. Anything can happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I'm heading in now for another quick hunt before work. Round 2! About 1 hour til sunrise, hoping I have better service today.
It's currently 61 degrees in south central Illinois but it's November 2cd. Anything can happen. Been seeing some heavy chasing with even mature bucks being involved over last 2 days. Plan is to hunt until 9:30 or so (work) then back at it after work this afternoon. Good luck everyone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All setup and still got 15 minutes til shooting light. Already got some movement about 50 yards away in the dark, hoping it's a deer!
7 1/2 hours left and I'm free to sit in a tree as much as my heart desires. Last 2 days of work have been extremely unproductive for me and today isn't looking any better lol. Good luck to those who are out! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I am having more fun hunting now than ever before. I have been seeing 5 to 10 deer per sit. I see more bucks than ever before. And this is all on open public ground. I hate hunting property with posted ground all around. The areas I hunt I barely have ever seen the borders. Just endless mountains of available hunting. My biggest improvements have been clear cut hunting and learning to read the terrain. I also don't shoot the first buck that is legal which is my personal preference. Anyone struggling needs to start reading articles and learning as much as possible. My biggest help was watching the videos from the nextbuk guys which was blood brothers originally. Best instructional videos on the market. Well enough babbling time to hunt. As long as I am getting better and improving each year I never get bored.
Just let a big 6 pt walk, not sure if that was dumb! Came by at 10 yards. Just know there are older deer in here, gonna keep waiting
That is my dream buck right now, a big 6. About 3 to 4 years ago I was hunting an early doe season only and had a huge 6 point walk by within 5 yards of my stand. Mature buck no doubt. It killed me not to be able to shoot him and ever since then Ive wanted to get in range of a big 6.....hasnt happened.
I would not hold back on a mature 6 pt any day! This guy was just too young. But he did have a nice rack for his age. I'm hunting big woods on this property and find some giant 6 pt sheds here once and awhile. Definitely a buck I would shoot, but never see them while hunting. Think they just get old and die.
