Great job on tracking and not giving up. Better take that wife out for a fancy meal or something super nice. Glad you find him he is a very nice buck. Love the darker rack. Counting down got 3 more days of work.

So for you run and gun guys, if you find a perfect tree but it has a 2- 2 1/2" vine clung to it do you pass the tree up or is the vine easy to strip off as you climb?

I found a tree today on my exit that I really want to hang a stand in. I wish I would have taken a picture of it.

I'd be using a lonewolf and sticks, I know I could get the straps around no problem, but the thought of the vine shifting concerns me.

Never peeled one off of a tree ironically enough. Not sure how securely they attach themselves.

It's not something I could spend hours doing, especially during the rut. This area is one I always see good bucks every year skirt between other stands. No clue how I haven't found it before, absolutely perfect aside from the vine.

Well intersting end to the night. Was getting just about dark and hear something walking toward me. Look and its just a spike buck. Notice a flicker of white out in the feild where my other stand is. Bring up binos and see a nice big rack through the trees. All of sudden hear bunch of snortinf and blowing toward other stand and see thr bigger buck come back to edge of that feild. Then look in front of me about 100 yards through trees and see another set of antlers from what looks like smaller 8 point maybe. Don't know what went on down in bottoms but hate that I can see down in front of that stand ha? Especially since was goin to sit there tonight but didnt becsuse they were goin to start cutting those beans and never did.

Oh well, feels like been sitting in right area, just need to be at right place right time. Sucks tho every time sit somewhere else, buck m after goes by other stand. Overall good night in the woods.

Should cone off fairly easy ,.....you may nit be able to pull it out of the tree but at least off The tree trunk . If not you could take a hatchet and cut it where you need to for stretching sticks / stand.
Hopefully it's not a big poison ivy or poison oak vine .......

I hack them off at the bottom and give a good pull to free them from the tree and then climb up in my climber and hack it off again above where I want to be. Just took a couple of good sized vines out of a tree I was climbing a couple of days ago.

They generally come off fairly easy the higher you get.

It wasn't hairy, unless it was dead.

Then again, I couldn't tell you what the heck it is.

It's not the drape down vines we used to hatchet off and use for swings as kids.

Think I'll just sit the stands in place for now lmao

Still catching up on the thread, but I went out for elk this afternoon with not much optimism. About a half hour before sundown two bulls came in to the water hole I was sitting on. I can only take a spike or an antlerless elk in this unit.
