Nothing for me tonight, will be in the stand tomorrow morning, I just switched my plans for the morning sitting a different stand just have one of those feelings. Would love to take a doe out before the rut hits but I would take a buck!!

For now, keep the does around for buck bait, then kill one after the rut.

My thought process is I prefer to shoot doe before the rut that way I’m not killing 2 deer if they are bred. Idk just something I think of, not to say that I won’t shoot one after the rut

That's why I have been forgoing hunting every opportunity in October. I used to hunt 6 or 7 times in October and by the time my rutcation got here I would be burned out and start getting discouraged when I shouldn't be.

Now, I have no idea how many people have hunted since the opener, how many were busted or made a bad shot. I just go in knowing it is time, fresh and rejuvenated.

Bad part of that is letting the does walk and later realizing I could've shot one and not missed anything. Now I think of it as not ruinging thw next days hunt by having a longer track into the thick stuff and scenting the joint up.

This weekend I will shoot a doe if offered the shot. Cool enough to let her lay in the truck and keep hunting. Will have a week to let the area recover.

Eh, still the same thing. Don't let breeding get in your head. Taking a doe in September vs January still produces the same amount of fawns come May.

I don't even let fawns with a doe deter me. Those fawns are weened and will find another group.

Might be a good early snow producer around November 13th or so, give or take a day.

Hopefully a bit earlier ao I can end my vacation on a good note.

This is the best part about having a west facing stand.

The worst part? Knowing another sit has passed without letting an arrow fly...

Chance of snow Thursday/Friday. Stay tuned.[IMG]

Well no luck tonight but atleast we saw the one little buck up close and personal. He came to within about 20 ft of our blind so my boy got a good look at him and we got some good practice on being still...

Bucks are chasing here. Passed on a small young buck at 20 yards and he proceeded to take off chasing a doe right past my stand. He hung around a good 20 minutes. Also saw a small 6 and a doe as I was driving out all off 75 yards from where I parked. I'm just excited to see some action.

Interesting sit this evening... had a spike come out into the plot extremely nervous & after about 15 minutes, ran off without a flagged tail. Interesting but what ever, its windy. Well i figured it out.....a sow with 2 cubs came into the plot with about 45 minutes of hunting time left....needless to say the deer hunt was pretty much over at that point. I took some awesome video and was cool with everything until the sow tried to wind me & was getting waaaaayyyyy to close to my tree. I called the other half & told him to drive his a$$ down to my stand like right now & i wasnt even joking. Needless to say i was a little excited at that point as the sow was about 10 feet from my tree. Turns out that talking on the phone was enough to startle the bears away....whew!

I've had a big male black bear on my cameras every night for the past week. Having my first sit on Saturday and walking into the stand in the dark should be a little nerve wracking. There's usually a bear on my cameras around this time of year every year, but it still makes the walk in a little more tense than normal. I'll have to upload a video and post it.

Couple good lookers hanging around. Saw lots of chasing tonight but only small bucks and does. It's about to heat up.

Now Joe, as a teacher I have to say you should go to classes, but seriously, if it's not a math, science, or accounting related course you will probably learn just as much in the stand as you would in the lecture.

So how do we start a "Go Fund Me" for gas and grub for a round trip from CT to MO?

Is this good weather for the rut??? To say I'm pumped is an understatement! 1-3 inches of snow this Friday.

Haha yeah, a mother with cubs doesn't look very fun.

Here's the one I'll be thinking about on the first few walks in and out in the dark. He's eating apples out of the tree:
