No luck on the elk hunt.

The West is beautiful, though. I'm definitely headed back next year to give it another go.

Two more weeks until bow season opens in PA. Have a good buck on camera that has been showing up during the day.

Well guys, I let yall down this morning. Had a good 8 at 15 yards, I didn't have enough light to truly be shooting, but like a dummy I tried it anyway. Shot right over his back

Better off a clean miss than a bad hit though. The day is still young, maybe he'll come back this after noon.

[IMG]30 yards to the little tree out there. Soy bean field to the right, woods to the left. And I'm sitting in an oak tree with a couple of persimmon trees behind me.

I hear ya. It was 87 here yesterday. That's almost 25 degrees above the normal high. I was roasting in the tree last night. I won't be able to to get back out until Monday morning. Good luck.

I officially have not slept in 40 hours, I think that may be a record for me. So I think the deer will get a break in the morning and I will get back after them tomorrow afternoon.
This morning I jumped deer out of my stand location before daylight, then scared the buck an hour later. Then this afternoon jumped some bedded deer getting out of there. So I think I will give that spot a break for a few weeks. I checked some cameras this morning and I had 12 does in front of a camera for 6 hours this morning. I think I will slip in there tomorrow about noon and sit till dark and then hunt it again Sunday morning before heading home.
Won't be back up here until the weekend of October 10th. Then the weekend of October 17th I'm going to hunt some Mossy Oak Propery in MS. THEN Alabamas bow season opens and GA goes into rut. I will be busy come October

I know what that's like. I'm in the middle of a 48 hour shift. What's the Mossy Oak property you hunt?

Wow that's a good connection to have. I assume they're pretty productive properties?

Gained excess to a little bit of private land .Pretty small but guy says he has deer in his yard everyday and wants them taken out .Sure enough I go check it out and 10 yards from this guys shed is a monster rub from the previous year Id guess .The guy even made a window to shoot out of his shed if I wanted to .,Set up a camera hopefully I'll have a big buck to show you in the days coming

Good luck. Go get him. I hunted my gun club for the first time today. I'm a relatively new member there and while everyone says it's terrible hunting, it looks incredibly productive. I bumped two does in the dark and didn't see anything once the sun came up. Now I'm back up in the stand I posted pictures of the other day. It's about 15 degrees cooler and the wind is much better. The clover in the hay field is also taller so maybe it'll bring in some hungry deer. I'll be sure to keep you posted. Unfortunately I won't be shooting any does here. I should be able to get us another 50 in the next few weeks though.

In response to the Mossy Oak Property question Ramaige, the particular property we have been hunting is only 400 acres and we have only had it for two years. We killed 2 nice bucks last year, I'll post a pic in a minute when I find it

Wow that deer is impressive. We certainly don't grow them that big up here. I'm pretty sure tonight I confirmed a 4-year-long suspicion regarding the evening stand I've been hunting. With the inconsistencies in activity year to year, I've wondered what the cause was all along. My answer is: acorns. All summer long the deer have been feeding on the clover in the field and using the overgrown part of the field as a main corridor as it offers good concealment. About 2 weeks ago, they stopped showing up on camera. Ironically, also about two weeks ago we began to get the biggest acorn drop I've seen in at least 5 years. I was able to capitolize on this for opening day when I shot the buck last week. However, it destroys my evening stand on the property I hunted tonight. Last year I couldn't even buy an acorn due to a terrible acorn crop and I saw more deer in that spot than I ever have anywhere else. This year is the total opposite. I'm gonna chock that stand up to a loss. Time to get back in the timber and find the best white oaks.

However, I did see a bobcat tonight. They're protected here because they aren't very common. I'll get a pic up soon.
