My plan on the buck I posted on page 9 of this thread:

My stand is 15 yards from those pictures. The camera is there with 98% battery life and a new sd card. The buck is bedding about 400 yards straight north of me and walks straight south usually right before dark or in the middle of the night and comes back by in the middle of the night or at first light. If the corn field remains there October 1st or after I can get to the stand for an evening hunt, but most likely by then the corn will be gone and I will only be able to hunt this stand in the morning with any wind, but a south. I am going to check this camera again on September 20th and season starts on October 1st. I feel like if the buck is on film at the right time and several times I will try it early season and if not will wait until the end of October when he starts to get stupid.

Have you guys seen something similar, how did it work out? Would you try something else or do something different?

good plan frenchbritt. the camera dosent lie so if you dont think your odds of getting him early are good i would most definatley wait. I think more guys blow there chances by just going in and hoping on a wim that he will walk by during daylight hours even if the camera tells them other wise, Some mature one will accept a little pressure. If he figures out your hunting him early good luck. stick with your plan and keep us posted.

    French,
I would agree with your strategy. I love hunting October bucks. I have killed twice as many nice deer in October as I have in November. IF you can get some pics of one t will put you in the game. Chances are early in Oct he isnt moving very far so if yor on him I would suggest getting After him. HE might be two miles away come the end of oct.

Here are a few pics. The first two pics are of Ernie. The next two are of a buck that I passed last year as a 130 in three year old. I cant believe how much he blew up. The third buck is a deer I call cal ripken. I usually catch a couple pics of him early heading up this loggin road. SO far that is the only pic I have of him all year but at least I know he is around.

I'm checking cams in MN and WI over the next few days. I'll keep you guys updated - I'm hoping this last pull will reveal a surprise or 2. If not - I have plenty of dandies to chase.

    Opening day... one week!!!

I have been getting a lot of ernie during the daylight. Witch is very unusual for him. Im not going to put any faith into my daylight pics until I get them after sept 15th then I might start to get excited.
