I wish I could give you advice but I’m not familiar with any scenario like that. I just know that me being me I would try sneaking in without bumping him, assuming you’re talking about an afternoon hunt. If I didn’t think that would work I’d stay out until I could get in in the morning and get there way early before he goes to bed. That’s just me though.
If it’s a mature pressured buck and you put a bunch of scent in its bed you jumped him from I’d expect him to not bed there again soon, but that’s just me trying to think of what Dan Infalt would say lmao no idea what your situation is like Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I definitely thought about a morning hunt and sit over his bed. The problem is its beside a cut corn field and sure he will be in it at night. I would have a very slim chance to sneak around him if in the field. So, I'm thinking evening only at this point. Also cant confirm it was actually him in the bed. That’s actually not a bad idea in the mornings with the wife gone. Something to get the killer blood pumping. These days I listen to older country mostly but when I was in high school AC/DC was king! I could share some stories….. nah.
That is also a concern. I didn't walk into his bed, but was about 20 yards from it. But still plenty close for to know i was there. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Absolutely sure he does. It was a rare wind that night, East. So could have been the reason he was bedding so close to the field. But also could have just been a lesser buck, which is common for them to bed close to the edge and the mature bucks stay farther back. I really wish i got a better look at the deer I jumped. I almost stepped on him, but only saw his butt as he blew thru the brush. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Yes, exactly were that buck came out of the marsh. Found multiple sheds and beds in that exact spot. I just stopped 50 yards short of it hoping they would come up out of the drainage. I knew better, to think they actually would. My gut told me to go in there, but i didnt listen. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
This is always a classic to get you pumped before a morning hunt. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Ive really been working on stealth on the walk in. Its my #1 tactic. Walking brutally slow has been the hardest thing for me to learn. All my hunts only happen because of my access. Its hard to get the mindset of its better to take 3 hours to get in and only hunt 1 hour, over rushing in just to get more time on the stand. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
If only you had a thermal imager. You could sneak in to the field edge and scan for him before you head to the stand. (Yes, I know it’s illegal to have them with a weapon in your possession.)
I don’t walk slow, quiet or try to sneak. I walk with purpose. I run a hellubright light and I get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, but I usually do it an hour before first light. Also, I’m hunting big woods. There are no fields to be concerned with.
Actually i could sit the field and watch it. I just have a hard time burning hunts when i know where he is. It would be the smart choice, I just have limited time to hunt and wouldn't have time to hunt 2 days in a row, so any intel i get may not be able to use it right away. I dont hunt fields, its were all the other hunters are. Im strictly big woods or marsh hunting. Also my goal is to bed hunt them, so its all about stealth. I just use fields for access and the ability to move faster. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Also, could you only imagine what you could do if you used a thermal drone. I know for a fact that people are doing this. Which is so messed up. I dont think they actually killed a deer with the intel, but im sure they could. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Thank you guys for the replies. It does help. It keeps me thinking. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
