damn, bro, haven't seen a single buck bigger than a spike on cam since the snow fell 9 days ago in central Sconnie.
Sort of related topic, I work with a Puerto Rican woman that's close to my age and a few years older than my wife. She and I were hired appx same time 20 years ago and we've always been good friends. She's going thru The Change now and she flat out warned me today that I am probably going to get murdered when my wife (also PR for those that don't know) hits our current age. ... so I've got that to look forward to.
Tip, Look for those beads of sweat on forehead and flushed face. Stay quiet and calm at any words leaving her mouth. If she needs an open window in car, OK Sleeping....do you have 2 bed rooms? Never joke about it. One day it may be funny to both of you, then ...seriously NOT!! BTW...men actually go through a "change" as well, there a reason "grumpy old men " is a common phrase.
Thanks but in yet another emergancy. A.J has been favoring his back leg. Same leg Scout grabs . Well it's usually a keep them seperated and give A J time to rest it. Most times in a week he's back to normal. It's been a week and yesterday while I was hunting and Scout was crated AJ's leg blew up! Too late for vet so They open at 7a.m. I'm not giving them an option, I'm loading him up and will be in their parking lot at 7a.m. They don't see him, I yank both dogs. to find a new vet. Been with them 3 decades and they get at least a 1,000 off us every year sometimes in one visit with both. Deer will have to wait, if she's down probably near frozen already or yotes ate her last night. I should have seen some blood in that snow by the time I hit all those eyes. Thinking on it half the night,, broken 3 blade head, body hair, bolt close to hit just in snow not ground. Obvious hit. ON a tripod. I could have hit the elbow? Bolt deflected down? But I know from experience that this crossbow at that distance can and has gone through shoulder blade. A low hit would have passed through with obvious blood on shaft and a bolt buried in ground at least in snow. It was barely in snow.I made sure her head was up at hit so she'd have less chance to drop too much at shot. Had she dropped it would be a higher hit not low hit. The thud of impact and her hunching with wobble on run ...I just don't understand no blood.
Coffee down and headed out. It's a lot warmer this morning at 25 degrees. Good luck if you're getting out this morning.
that could be the reason for my dilemma. she is of that age also!!!! 50+ thx , i will keep that in mind
sorry for your black cloud. sorry i was giving you crap at the start of the season, if i would have known your season your season would hae gone this way i would have been a little easier on you !!!!!!! maybe its time to geets some oodoo to defunk this year
Just got back from the vets. That was a long morning. So resting before going out on a deer search. Though I do wonder why. I was snowing when I left and it has not let up. A bit over just an inch but wet and windy. I was left crying and shaking from a nearly front end collision on the way to vets.. There was no "road" when I left and stayed on back roads as long as possible, then hit main state rd. It was a mistake! I could see all the ~~《《 tire tracks from cars in other and my lane. Add to it lines of traffic (sorry ) anyways going down into valley I see a car coming up at me and it's fish tailing in and out of my lane. Age tells me they won't slow down, my car be damned. I have my snow button on and was able to avoid it by hugging the culvert ditch. Just as he came at me, I sped up then cranked my wheel back toward the center line . I saw his hood just barely miss my front bumper and pass my driver side as his tail end started swinging my way. God yes God saw us through that one because he barely missed me and I was able to maintain control. We did get a good "shaking " when a hit brakes to avoid crossing center. Anyway AJ was x-rayed twice. No visible brake nor bone funkiness, indicating cancer. Two heavy duty meds and massage therapy from us to release fluids. Oh a literal prescribed box muzzle for Scout. I'll scan sanctuary from a old stand but all tracks are now covered I may be able to spot a body or remains of if the hit was fatal. Sancuary is golden rod and slashings. PS told me what I owed, 293.00 and change. My response , literal hysterical laughter exploded from me, then a Fewwwww Oh boy that wasn't expected! The entire staff went silent then started to laugh. Sorry it was just less than expected, next time you get a puss face at check out remember my laughing face of surprise.
My wife and I just rode onto the property to play musical stands and bikes. I had two e-bikes down there in different spots due to flooding, but I decided to bring my son’s bike back up to the house. I also moved one of my stands down into the valley due south of where all of my buck pics were taken on top of the ridge. No one has been down there because it’s such a long ride, plus the terrain is pretty rough. I’m glad I didn’t try to hunt today. Dang it’s windy out there.
Wow! It sounds like you had a very eventful morning. Glad you made it out of that bad road situation, sounds like it was a close one. Also, glad the vet didn't empty your bank account and the dog will be okay.
I’ve been up for about 30 minutes. I ended up seeing 8 deer this morning. 4 of them were small bucks. Season ends on Saturday. I was hoping a mature buck might get pushed in here but not yet. Good luck if you’re out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks early in, it certainly wasn't how I wanted to test the new car in snow. Sure as hell glad it handles great! I am lucky I keep human nature in the back of my mind. In these hills on slick roads, one with poor tires and driving skills knows that once committed to a slick hill it's power through or end up backing back down the road. It was an older mid size car and I clearly saw their mind set in the fish tailing. I went out to track the doe. I apparently was blind last night for the second she went behind the pines and hit the edge of woods the blood started. Color who knows it was bleeding through the snow. I tracked her through sanctuary until she crossed lines again. Right to a red pine plantation and land I definately do not have permission to be on and will not get. Long story that involves a promise I made to my lands previous owner the pine land owner is pizzed about.. A little over a 1/2 mile. She took me on a zig zag backtrack trip through honey suckle brush, bramble and head high golden rod. Two beds and only one spot of a clear blood pour that was the color of a red pen. I believe she was one set of the multiple eyes that had me back out last night. The trail became extremely sparse as I followed. The beds didn't have a large amount of blood. I think it was a elbow strike she can survive in this weather. Interesting fact she had one huge buck track that seemed to follow her. I believe some of the movement happened this morning due to lack of snow. Deer piled back into the plot hours later.
Sounds like she’ll be fine. Good on you for following up. Now dust yourself off and get back out there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Knowing those details should put your mind at ease. I'll never understand why an adjoining neighbor would not allow for the recovery of a deer. Makes no sense to me at all!
