I got down at 9:30, packed up my climber and eased out. Just as I got within sight of the camera stand I heard a deer blow once and saw a white tail bounding away. I’m telling myself it was a doe since it blew. That makes me feel better even though I know bucks will blow and run to. I swear, this year someone could give me an anvil and I’d figure out a way to screw it up or break it.
Snow is crunchy here. I bumped some deer going in this morning. I like to walk spot/stalk in the snow but there is no way I could with this one.
Those are the results I've gotten when I used to use a grunt tube. In fact, a grunt would spook the bucks in my woods. I don't even carry a grunt tube anymore. I'm sure they can work under certain conditions though.
on the state land I hunt the deer have heard just about ever grunt brand there is... they are waaaay over used by some ... same for doe bleats, that being said I will use 'em from time to time ... I'll call to a deer and blind call at times .. i have called in numerous younger buck, those that have survived more than a couple of seasons know better ... I'm questioning my sanity for this weekend to go out (if I go out) (fri/sat.)... used to be when I had private and preset stands, cold wouldnt slow me down ... walk in, climb, hunt, climb down, go home.... now with backpacking all my crap in, and then having to set up and take down, I must be crazy if I go out . .. but, the winds should be good for a few stand trees I havnt been in yet, including where my one cell cam is (SW predicted, over night lows 1 deg or so, daytime highs low 20's) ... I'll hunt the PM if I do go out .. its the set up/take down that super sucks in the cold ... but I want to hunt the friggin' snow ! ... arrrgh ! .... btw, its now DOE time (but I'll still take a decent buck too) ;0) ....
Wondering what happened to the post about the young hunter killed during a deer drive? Was it deemed unacceptable for some reason?
Back out for the afternoon. The sun melted some of the snow but everything is still covered. Good luck if you’re out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m back in my tree for the afternoon sit. You know, I’m kind of tired of typing that. I think from now on I’ll just say “Checking in.””
Couple days left of gun season. Went to the first property there was vehicle already there and it’s too small to hunt 2 people. Came to my second spot to find out 2 other guys hunted it this morning and walked all over it. To late to go anywhere else going to need to be lucky tonight.
well, they added a few degrees to the forecast, upper 20's fri. .. maybe 30 sat. ... still cold over night/mid-lower 20's ... winds still sw for Fri. .... looking better now to get out there .... heck, I'm 67, Ill go till I cant no more .. got to have at least one snowy sit this season ..
Nothing for me tonight. Moon is big and bright. Trying to decide if I want to get out first thing tomorrow or get in around 8 and sit till 12 if my patience last that long.
Well this year is officially not my year. I've been in the hospital since Monday afternoon with pancreatitis and a gall bladder stone and am scheduled to have surgery sometime in the next couple days. Looks like my season is over. Very limited hunting but I enjoyed every moment of it. God Bless all of you.
Man, I'm sorry to hear this. I've seen many patients with pancreatitis over the years and its very painful for them. Have you had issues with it before? I will be praying for you. Sent from my SM-S916U1 using Tapatalk
Sorry to hear of your situation. Hoping everything goes smoothly with your surgery. Get well soon, and may God bless you. I'll keep you in my prayers!
