Nothing to show for my evening hunt. My woods felt like being in a morgue, and is likely to continue. This is the beginning of the end of the rut in my area. I'm just happy I was able to let a few legal bucks walk and to at least see my target buck up close. It was a sight I'll never forget. I want to mention, Holt said the only way I'd see my target 8pt was if he was with a doe, and that's exactly how it went down on the evening of Oct. 25th. I had him at 20yrds tending his doe, but never gave me a clear shot. He's REAL smart! I believe he's a 4.5 year old, so he knows how to keep his butt safe, considering he's gotten through 8 different shotgun hunts (2 one day hunts per year) that they have had in the State Park I hunt. I think he's one of the big 8pts I got on cam last year too. I actually believe I'll see him again next season, God willing.
Super slow day for me. Saw 1 little doe this morning. Took a midday break and moved to another spot with the climber. Seemed like perfect conditions but nada. 3 doe crossed a field next to me at last light, that’s it.
Rain got slowed a bit, now majority of it is supposed to fall Friday morning/afternoon. Going to be a wake up and look at the radar call.
Had a spike come in at 410 and worked my mock scrape rope for about 10 minutes. Was fun to watch. Nothing else the rest of the sit. Back at it tomorrow.
It’s been pretty dead here since Monday. I checked the parking area again and the railroad tracks. Still holding out hope it shows up somewhere in the garage or house.
I really hope you find it, since it has sentimental value to you. I hate losing anything that I care about.
Metal detector an option? Should be a quick find if you can retrace your route. I can't count the times I have spent 10 minutes looking for a knife I literally just set down to do something. They hide in plain sight, buck knives don't help with their color choices.
Yes we do have a metal detector. The last place I remember seeing it was in the center console of my truck. It’s a small knife with wood grain so it blends right in if it’s on the ground.
This is gonna sound real weird but I hunted a place maybe a month ago. First time in during early morning. Pitch black and Im walking in for like 10mins. Get to bottom of trail and it feels like my headlamp gets real tight and things just feel really weird. My headlight became so narrow I could barely see so I stopped...felt really out of whack and things felt very uncomfortable in the pitch black. Never told anyone that story. Meet up with 2 guys I know today and hadnt seen for years. They told me they hunted that same place bc I sent them the coordinates. They both looked at me and said they hunted that place just one morning and never again even though they saw giant buck sign..told me the place gave them the absolute creeps. They were dead set and said they wouldn't hunt there ever again due to how weird it felt..... So wild man...they went on to tell me they researched and there is a cemetery right in that spot. Dude...
That's a great buck for PA. I hope you get another chance at him. I don't know about you, but I like the late archery season. If you can find what they are feeding on in the cold, you have a better chance.
Thanks. The odds of me seeing him at all were slim to begin with, let alone at 20yrds, so I think the odds of me seeing him again are even more slim. But, I will keep trying.
