Conditions worsened so I rolled out. I get back to my truck and see what I believed to be some sort of harness rope under my truck. Im like what the heck. Man I gave it a good pull. Didn't move. Pull like heck andbthis guy came out from under my truck and scared the crap out of both of us. 20 hugs later he let me know he was a good boy.
Looks like he got out of his cage from a nearby truck. The cage was full of insulation and a covering. He went back to his own truck. Lol
So today we both woke hacking lungs up amd me with a head ache this caused, worse than the covid one I had. Rained all day then fog rolled in and frozen rain. . At dark huge temp drop ,heavier fog and drizzle. The snow starts after midnight and continues throughout tomorrow a bit over 2". Assuming they are right. So cross your fingers that I awake feeling some what human. It will be lower winds and 25°. With snow all night it will be a quiet walk in. Deer should be near or in pines. I'm thinking a sit in the gypsy blind could be great. Now the farmer never did another planting after he cut the oats but the farmer next to him still has his beefer hay field that backs up to us ,near the pine plantation. Hoping tonight goes well. So far my throat isn't on fire right now. Which has happened every night the last week. BTW. Not a single deer on garden blind cam in over a week.
Nothing at all from the stand. Field full of deer on my way out. Pulled card on my way out, bears are all still nocturnal.
Didn't see a single deer this afternoon. Be back out in a tree Tuesday. It's supposed to be a high of 28.
I had a good soaking. When the rain finally let up a little I had a small buck work by me. He never came closer than 36 yards so I let him walk. I had a couple doe work off behind me and that was it. Trying to dry what I can. Back at it in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ugh!!! This is the worst. Backed out at the truck. Going to go home. Long story short, Nice buck came in , where I shot I ranged 28 yds. Held my 30 pin low, and as I was swaying from my saddle like one of those blow up guys at the car dealership , I let it fly only to hear a slight click and my no k redirect downwards. A branch blew in front of me right when I shot. At first I thought I missed but as he ran away his guts started spilling out. At one point they were dragging the ground. He stopped, tail tucked and hunched up before slowly stumbling into the timber. The timber is a thin strip that edges a creek. Thoughts? Anyone hit one like this before? I have not.
I don't know how many of you have seen this but a new world record typical may have been shot in Ohio!
Never have, but he should die. Give him a few hours then go get him. Morning should be good to put your hands on him.
If his guts were on the ground he's going to be dead, but he's also going to be a coyote magnet as well. Would think 3 hours he would be incapacitated. Probably not dead unless he is able to bleed out from a tear or your shot.
Yea that’s what has me concerned. As I watched him run away more and more of his insides came out but I didn’t see a lot of blood. Doesn’t mean there isn’t any. I’d like to go see what the blood looks like but I don’t want to risk bumping him if he laid down close by. I think it will just have to be a long night and a call into work
He will not live long. His intestines will get caught on branches, tear him up and die pretty quickly. You will find him.
Temps are on your side to let him lay, just have to hope he diea and freezes over quick. Might keep the scent down if so. He's not going to go far if what you seen is what you seen. Only deer I ripped open like that was artery hit as well but I was picking up clumps of gut on the track. The ground does a number on innards
