Another hockey weekend. Hoping to get back in town in time to hunt tomorrow evening.

I have come to the realization that I likely will not see my target 8pt again. I knew odds were low of me seeing him at all, let alone at 20yrds and offering no clear shot, but I am most appreciative of the fact that I saw him in person. I had time (about 10mins) to watch him and get a real sense of just how big he actually is. He's the biggest buck I've seen in 40 years of hunting deer in Pa.

I have had slam dunk shots at two different, smaller, legal bucks, one of them three times, three days straight. I've also had numerous easy shots at 4-5 different doe, but I won't shoot a doe anymore. The deer numbers in my woods are nothing like they were 10, or 15 years ago.

If I don't see another deer the rest of the season, I'll be okay with that. Because, just me seeing my target 8pt at such close range made my season. It isn't always about the kill, as much as it's about the hunt. I will continue to try to kill that 8pt though! :tu:

Well...I was 3 hours early, but I was right!

My 80yo uncle killed this toad tonight, heart shot him at 15yds right at end of shooting light- from the ground! Nicest buck he's shot in 30 yrs, 4.5yo 11pt, Michigan public land! LMFAO
    LOVE IT

I have watched the same squirrel carry a black walnut to his ground stash 8 times so far. He travels along the same exact route over certain fallen trees to get there. Funny to watch it happen so often.

Yeah I’m not going out tomorrow morning. 19 degrees and 20mph gusts with a feels like temp of 7. I’ll get out in the afternoon in the shack on an edge of a plowed field just to get out there.

I checked some cameras on the way out tonight and I got a sequence of pictures of a large 9pt tending a doe, he will be running rampant in a day or 2. I know where I will be setting if the wind is good. It was actually about 120 yds where I sat all day today.

You are a stronger man than me haha. I have a lot of money invested in clothing and don’t think I would stand a chance in a stand tomorrow.

I had two deer come out of the pine thicket with about 15 minutes of light left 120 yards away. Both were antlerless and one was clearly bigger than the other. After looking carefully with binos and rifle scope, I shot the bigger of the two. I thought I was shooting a yearling doe accompanied by its first fawn.

I realized it was a little smaller than I thought when I walked up on it. Turns out it was a button buck with no nubs, I had no idea until I looked between the legs and found the young twig and berries. Which begs the question, with the size difference I saw between the two, did I see a deer with midget genes tonigh? Looking at them standing there before I shot, there is no way you could convince me that it was not a doe and a fawn.

Neither had spots, which tells me that there are way too many does on this WMA and some fawns are being born midsummer ir later.

Oh I’m not going tomorrow, if I was younger no problem. But now, not so much

Guys... this might be my uncle's last season. He's got Parkinsons, a ton of other health issues... his son (my cousin/ best hunting buddy) and I tracked this guy for like 50yds and when we found him it was the most ridiculous whoopa hop around party you've ever seen. We were like school girls. I've never been happier for my own self on a deer.
