Im out. About 20 minutes before dark i had a doe and her fawn come by me at 5 yards. Milled around and left. Then she snuck up behind me and i didn't know. Took off after that.

Crazy crazy crazy day in the ND hills. Bucks are running around everywhere. We had 2 misses out of 3 of us. I didn’t shoot. 7 or 8 different bucks. One magnum 150” +.

Calling for 30+ mph gusts tomorrow. Should be interesting.

Had a doe fawn come in 10 mins before legal. She milled around until after last light. Then heard grunting coming from direction doe fawn came from. Sounded like he may have been pushing a doe around. Hard to tell. Will be out next Saturday

That's what I was thinking after sitting for 12 hours today, but at about 5:30pm I had a spike come feeding through and a lone doe ten mins later saved the day. But still, only two deer for that amount of stand time is somewhat deflating. The deer numbers just are not what they were when I first started hunting these woods 22 years ago.
I will continue putting in the hours for my target buck for the next two weeks. I do think (hope) I'll at least see him one more time before the end of the rut.

I want to mention, the spike I saw this evening walked right through the shooting lane I cleared a couple days ago, I thought that was ironic. I just need my target buck to do that.

Don't forget to adjust your phone alarms an hour earlier for the morning wake up.

    I love it.

I can hunt at night and still feel like i can get some chores/tasks done afterwards.

At the start of bow season I get home about 9. Now, I'll get home about 630

Before cell phones, my buddy mistakenly moved his clock FORWARD 1 hour, but then got up an hour earlier...like he should. He thought he'd get to the stand 1 hour before light....nope, 3 HOURS BEFORE LIGHT. By time he figured it out, it was too late to go back home. His boots were frosted up by sunrise. He hunted 1 hour of light and called it quits. Still makes me laugh.

Worked my butt off today trying to get on a big one. Last fifteen minutes, the biggest buck of my life came by And I shot him right through his backstraps. I don't need a pity party, but i'm pretty much fifty fifty. If I want to continue hunting this season.

Dang, are you positive the shot wasn't better than that. You have to give it due diligence. Maybe it caught the artery?
