I had a massive buck underneath me tonight. 5 yards away. 10-15 min of shooting time left
5-10 inches of antlers. Spike. That’s combined both antlers.
one he hit the stream of the ozonics he stopped and tried to figure out what it was.
He just walked off.

Nothing for me tonight, I believe there was to much outside activity in the neighborhood at the wrong time.

Ended up seeing 5 does in different spots. I thought I was going to get a shot on one but she was in a hurry to get somewhere. At dark I had 2 of them about 60yds so I tried barking and howling to get them to move off, they didn’t move until I started down the ladder.

Sorry to be so late.
Okay, yes, I shot a buck. He looked like a really good one too, but we know how that works for me.
This shot was almost a direct repeat of the buck I killed on 28 January 2022. Coming straight at me. This one was quartering slightly to my right. I was 20 feet up. He was about 10 yards. The arrow hit toward the top of the right shoulder blade at a good angle. I wish I had shot lower now. Anyway, judging from the angle of the arrow I probably got the top of the right lung, hit the left lung, punctured the diaphragm and caught gut at the end. The broadhead was a Grim Reaper Whitetail Special - 2" 3 blade. It should dispatch him quickly but I know he's going to run full out until he dies.
Just like last time there was the arrow sticking out of him, but it looked like only about a foot or so. Once again he ran like a bat out of hell because that blinking Nockturnal was flashing in his peripheral vision.
I thought maybe I could find him with blood app but it sucks when everything is wet. It kept showing me false blood detected indicators. I know where he went and I tried looking with the thermal imager but I didn't want to walk that far in there and risk bumping him. Like the last time, I know what I saw and I know he's dead, but you can never be too sure.
So, I've decided to go back in at first light with someone to help. Coyotes aren't much of a problem here but I want to try and find him before the buzzards get airborne.
For those who are wondering why I didn't let him walk by, if I had I wouldn't have had a shot. I was hunting right on the edge of thick cover and he would have disappeared as soon as he walked by.
