I'll have to go back in the morning. I tracked her 100-150 yards. I feel like it was too far forward. Good blood and then stopped.

I'll keep trying to post pics, but right now not good enough service.

IN - last year I shot a doe. Initially thought a great shot, but some corn at poi. The corn made me think I must have hit further back....but when I found her, I had cut her esophagus, and what she was eating fell out. She didn't go far, maybe 80 yards.

The doe moaned when I hit her. The only other time I've heard a deer moan when shot was when I purposely shot one in the next and dropped her.

You say he walked away. In my experience a deer that is hit that walks away or goes at a slow like trot/run is usually a sign of a gut shot. Could you tell if he hunched up at all?

Never heard one moan, I've had a button buck make a noise like a growl that I think was more of a freaked out grunt when I shot it in the shoulder. I'll never forget that sound as it completely caught me off guard, probably just as surprised as he was

I straight liver shot a deer once and he had a similar reaction. Ran back to ab 50 yards and then walked away. The blood clotted so quick there was no trail and it took me 7 days of grid searching to find him in the marsh. He was on a small island surrounded by water. I regret not trying to get a dog because I was unable to eat any of that deer. I’d highly suggest calling up a tracker cause they’ll know if it’s a good hit or not when you describe it to them. My buddy just got one for a gut shot deer last week and it cost him 200. Well worth it in my opinion

Waiting till morning is the right call. I was extremely tempted to head out last night after my buck but knowing what I do now I’d have bumped him and with how little he was bleeding I’d have probably never found him. Extra time and daylight will definitely raise your odds. Good luck.
