Saw 1 spike, 1 doe and a white and yellow house cat. I think this is the buck that’s been making the rubs and scrapes.
Thank you! I did learn that the spot I'm hunting isn't a text friendly location. The deer are able to get to within 30yrds of me without me seeing them, so I can't be taking my eyes off that direction. I learned this the hard way yesterday evening, when I spooked two doe when I was getting my Milky Way bar to snack on. They got within 30yrds of me and I had no clue they were there. Had I been looking, I'd have seen them approaching.
Tonight, I had one of the most amazing deer hunts of my entire life! I saw 3 buck and three doe this evening. That same 6pt non-typical, for a third night in a row, a spike, AND one of my target 8pts!!! At 4:45pm I hear some leaves rustle, then see a mature doe feeding towards me. As I'm videoing her, out of the thicker stuff comes one of the two BIG 8pts I've been hoping to see! He was trailing her, but not real closely, maybe 25yrds behind her. As soon as I saw him I slowly put my phone in my coat pocket, sloooowly grab my CB, and take the safety off. He was coming my way and I honestly thought he was going to give me a close shot. I could not get over how wide he is and how tall his tines are! Pics don't do him justice. He is EASILY the biggest buck I've ever seen in Pa! I've never become so unglued seeing a buck before. As if I were a beginner, I started shaking, almost uncontrollably. I was able to calm down since he was just watching the doe feed, and he stayed very close, just browsing. At one point, he was very slowly working his way towards the doe who fed 15yrds from me. But, the only possible shot he offered was at 25yrds, through a small hole in the brush. I thought about it, but didn't want to chance making a less than deadly shot and wounding him, never to see him again. What's really crazy is, as I'm watching him watch the doe, along comes that same buck from last night at 10yrds! Almost exactly as he's done the last two nights in a row. I couldn't believe it! I was hoping the big 8pt would come and chase him away, which might have offered a shot, but he just kept his position. I watched as the doe fed away and he followed her, never giving me the shot I was hoping for. I will never forget what I experienced tonight, ever. What's good is that he had no clue I was watching him for almost a half hour, so I believe I have at least a fair chance of seeing him again in the next two weeks. It's nights like this that I live for. Here's the buck I saw tonight. Edit: Checked my cam on my way out and saw he came through this morning at 8:18am.
Hey folks. Don’t post here often so please let me know if this is out of place. I shot the biggest buck I’ve ever shot today and I’m confused about what happened afterwards. I moved a stand today to accommodate the wind direction and then hunted it this afternoon. Around 6:10 this buck (one of the biggest on my property) bumped some does into the field before turning and walking my way. He stopped at 15 yards, broadside, and I put what I thought was a perfect shot on him. I have lighted nocks and still can see distinctly in my mind where that arrow disappeared into him. Now I’m well aware that shots can be deceiving but my wife was with me and we both thought he was a dead deer. He kicked, ran 100 yards, stopped, stood for 30 seconds or so and then laid down. After a minute or two he stood up, moved ten feet and laid down again. Another buck came over and was sniffing him, nudging him and walking circles around him and he stood up again and then stood there without moving till dark about 15 minutes later. He’s in the middle of a wide open cut corn field. He never hunched, and never walked off. Just stood there with his head lowered and legs slightly splayed out. I cautiously retrieved my arrow and there was blood at point of impact. Arrow is covered in blood albeit not the super light frothy lung blood but also not terrible dark (see image) The arrow also did not stink at all. At this point I’m planning on waiting till morning but I’m looking for a little consolation here…Will I find him in the morning? Obviously I’m pretty torn up as he’s a big boy. Just thot I’d put this out there to see how it strikes you all. Sorry about the long epistle…
Looks like liver maybe to me? Sure sounds like a dead deer, I'd let him sit the night, back out and probably have him dead right there in the AM. Don't bump him tonight if he wants to lay down. Might have gotten one lung also. Sent from my SM-S918U using Tapatalk
Ok guys, not an LFTS post, but since this thread gets a lot of traffic, I figured I'd post it here. Supposedly this guy from Ohio shoots this buck and says it's free range. Then he says he also has last years sheds. I know some bucks can pack on serious inches but I don't see this being the same buck from the pervious sheds. What do you all think!
