Was just sharpening my knife when I thought of an old story when I was a teacher. My first six years of professional work I worked as a special education teacher in a rough school. On my birthday one of the toughest wildest kids in the school gave me a gift first thing in the morning. I said thank you and opened it up. And there I observed a 6 inch buck knife the kid just brought into school. Kid was like 13 but was immature emotionally and as I looked at him I knew he didn't know the significance of bringing a weapon into school. I brought him near me and told him how much I appreciated the gift, but also told him what could happen to him if he ever did something like that again. He looked shocked upon realizing. I quietly walked that knife to my truck and it was our bond for years. Wink wink. hahaha.
Congrats @Tony! Can't wait to hear the story. Sent from my SM-S908U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
So now you will hear the rest of the story… At 7:45 I look to my right and see a buck coming on a line that would put him about 40 yards away, broadside when I would have an opportunity for a shot… the window is tight but since NY allowed crossbows this year, I took out the Ravin. with my compound I would not have taken the shot but with the Ravin, no problem. I stop him and fire. He mule kicks and runs a half circle and stops… I wait for him to fall over… then I lose him. Not sure of the shot now, I wait until 9 to quietly look for the bolt. I can’t find it or a hit site…so I thought. I found what looked like a few day old gut pile…. Just stomach contents and white hair. I thought, “ Someone shot a deer and gutted it on my property!” It turns out it had to be from the buck I shot. so after looking for 30 minutes and honestly thinking I missed, I started the walk out. My phone rings. It’s my neighbor who I had already updated on everything and he says, my neighbor just called me and your buck is laying dead on his driveway! He gives me his number and I call him and he says, “Tony? Your buck is laying dead in my driveway! Congratulations and you are welcome to come get him.” The guy was super nice and gave me permission to track any deer I hit if it runs on on his land. I told him the same. I eviscerated this Buck… had to hit a branch… I honestly thought I missed that deer… I was still going to look just give it 6 to 8 hours like a gut shot because the way he acted after I shot. Turns out I didn’t have to Dad would have wanted me to shoot that buck… I told my team before the season after my father passed that I wasn’t going to be picky this year… I can see him smiling as he looks down… wild morning
That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to recover it. Congrats! Sent from my SM-S916U1 using Tapatalk
