I bought a Summit climber for my oldest off of Facebook marketplace. Working on teaching to be more mobile this season.
He is, 14 now and passed me by on height a few months ago, still hasn't had that big growth spurt yet, just quietly grew about 9 inches in the last 18 months. Wearing size 13 shoes, I expect to hit around 6 feet before he is done. He is pulling back 53lbs with a 27' draw right now. I could probably increase that draw weight a little.
Archery elk opened Labor Day weekend. I will be going the next three weekends. Headed up this Friday after work to have a go at them. Really hot and super dry, daylight movement is going to be at a premium. I'm thinking wallows may be a good focus this weekend, with some light, soft cow calling. Just lost a beloved dog yesterday, she made it to 16 years, 7 months old. A long life for a dog and she got spoiled rotten at home and a metric ton of camping trips to smell all the smells...but it has put a damper on my enthusiasm going into this weekend.
Water and north faces for the elk. Sorry for the loss of the dog. Sounds like she loved a good long life.
Made it through work! Now just a sleepless night with a :[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] wake up and we’re there!!!
Well, I'm checking back in from a way too short of off season. Sounds strange, but the year has flown by with way too little to show for it, but I'm shifting gears back towards hunting, and was just out putting up another cell cam and the cam just up the field a couple hundred yards was sending these! It was 37 degrees here last night, so thats why they are so active I guess. He was in that same spot at 630 this morning also. The camera is in Same tree as mystand.
Good luck to all of the 9/5 hunters, rain will be gone by daylight, acorns dropping like rain drops, hopefully we all have a safe and successful opening day. Will be my first one in way too long!!
This is exactly right. And, the going rate for a guided one week hunt (six hunting days) is roughly $5000, not including your airfare. Obviously not cheap, but you'll never forget the experience. One of the great things about hunting Alberta is you're guaranteed a tag, no draw, like the best destinations here in the states.
It’s finally here!! Archery opener for Maryland, I am headed south with Dad. Got this picture as soon as I woke up. Just need him to come by in about five hours and we’ll be golden! Good luck out there to everyone!! Stay safe and shoot straight!
All set up in Maryland! Got in clean I think, had big storms roll through last night so the ground is soaked. Got my platform set up and looked up and had two sets of eyes coming my way at about 30 yards. They never blew at me so they may still be hanging around. Man does it feel great to be in a tree! Got fresh acorns on the ground infront of me but I those will be just about everywhere with the storms we had last night. Have about an hour until legal light! Good luck out there guys!
Nothing to report yet, dad has a doe and two fawns bedded about 60 yards away. First saddle selfie of the year!!!
After my fall in July I made myself a promise. Today I kept that promise and climbed all of my VT stands with a linemans belt attached and then hung the HSS Lifelines on each of the trees. So now I'm attached from the ground up! Felt good to be in a tree, can't wait for the October 1 opener here in VT. I'll set up my NJ stands when I go in late October for some pre rut/rut action. Good luck MD archers. Knock something down!!!
