I’m set up for the afternoon in a spot I’ve wanted to hunt for years. It’s on a neighbors 14 acre place that borders mine. I had permission to hunt it last season but getting here was a pain. I was recently given the combination to the gate. I had a camera here last season and my big boy walked by quite a bit. This stand overlooks a heavily used trail along a fence line. The woods here are much more open but there are a lot of down trees from the spring storms. One positive thing is I’m only 340 yards from my driveway.
As to this morning’s sit, I didn’t see anything but squirrels. It’s a good spot. I just think the timing is wrong. I left my climber there. My son arrives tomorrow for two weeks of bow hunting and we will definitely revisit that spot. Maybe leave it alone until the late October new moon.
My son and I are in the blind! First hunt of the year. Sent from my SM-S908U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Saw two doe head toward the field, saw one had a little fork. So I thought it was an antlered doe, spent 15min trying to look for nuts through binos, turns out, it’s just a fork with a doe looking body and nuggets. But for such a tiny rack, has a good size body. Might be a good deer in a few years.
This is a good spot, but so is the spot Brett and I hunted. I just think the bucks are almost exclusively nocturnal here now. That should change soon though.
Had doe and a fawn come in, doe busted me moving immediately and spent 15 minutes milling around trying to figure out what she saw through the brush never spooked bad. 10 minutes later had a Forky drinking for 5 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Must be you were next to me. At 623 until 640 about 500yds from where I was hunting someone let off about 2k in fireworks. I walked out after 5 minutes of that.
Nobody hunting this evening either, seen 2 in the lake facility area, but couldn't see anything in the beans. Seen a big buck, for the 3rd time, got a good look at him on the way back. Seen him the first time last Sunday on the way back. Could see sun hitting antler and he was big bodied, crossing a road between 2 corn fields but not a good look. Tonight on the way there I looked down on the small cornfield as I passed and seen a lone deer walking the edge, knew it was a buck but head was already behind some brush. Told myself I was going to take that little side road on the way back he crossed last Sunday. I almost took it on the way back too, decided last minute the odds were too high on not seeing him. It's a downhill road that's basically a veer off Y, you can't see down the road until you pass the turn off. Sure enough there he was walking length ways towards me down the road. Well past his ears and looked heavy. Couldn't see tines so no clue on points, but he was definitely a specimen. Just on the 3 sightings he's killable, just not huntable A good 5 miles from where I'll be hunting so nothing to get excited about on my part. Just wish I'd have taken that veer off so I could have got a good look at him. No way to prove it is the same buck all 3 times, but the odds of seeing a buck there within a 100yd circle can't be that high
If someone had told me that I would sit that spot for the first time ever and not see a single deer I'd have said they were crazy. But that's what happened. I left everything in the stand and I'll hunt it in the morning. This year is really strange. I had seen a ton of deer last season by this time. Also, there were scrapes all over the 560 acres when I first saw it on 08 October last year. They are just beginning to scrape there now. It has to be how hot it's been. It's supposed to be back up in the 80's for high temps this coming week as well. I really need a break from this weather.
Making my way home no kills but good hunt 7 deer seen just not the big guy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
