I'll be out working on the access trails I'm doing around the edges of the 40 acres and doing some light scouting. Most of the bucks I have on camera are still holding antlers, but I'll still keep an eye out. Until I see more have shed I'll stay out of the center bedding. I did pick a spot for some willow cuttings to put in that stays wet all year, but that's about all I got on the agenda. Supposed to be a nice day here too! I have a grasa field where I see about 10 bucks congregating every night. Up until last week I'd see them all with antlers. Drove through the area again and didnt see but one with antlers, although they were a couple hundred yards off. I'm assuming some were does but I'd guess some were recent shed bucks. So I think it's starting around here as this cold weather has set upon us and they are really stressed for food.
Trip was cut short cause my buddy threw out his back on the snowmobile. But man oh man am I jacked!! Second shed I’ve ever found and the first on our property. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got the access trail done for the north side and west side totally cut in with just loppers and a hand saw and I'm beat. Also worked on clearing out around one of my stand spots while I was at it. I did get lucky on one thing tho. I found the front part of my old stabilizer that came unscrewed last fall and fell off. Couldn't believe it. So I’m thinking about today a bit. It’s so hard to scout during the winter here in Minnesota. All crops are gone and the only thing you can do is follow trails in the snow. The trails we followed today are just trails going to/from their winter bedding. It all changes during the summer/fall when everything thaws and the swamps are wet. The old rut sign I found I already knew about. I’m still getting back out there and getting into the swamp. I did learn something... I never knew deer peed blue. Found so many pee spots where it was more blue than yellow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Day 9 I put down some miles and didnt find much. Think I nailed down one, maybe two stand spots. Lots of tracks.
Did you watch the latest hunting beast video about flat land and beds? That is exactly what I have been dealing with and how I'm finding my beds. It's a very informative video, check it out. Although I don't have nearly the amount of marsh, but deer are doing the same thing in a micro version. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I blame Holt for my mud filled boots this off season. Next place I'm heading in to check out next week.....
Hahaha! I filled mine a couple weeks ago and there was a small layer of ice on top! Who needs coffee? Just go over your boots! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Lost my phone, had a baby boy (well the wife did not me), been working a ton, and still finding time to scout. I will sleep when they lower me 6ft down I guess. Haha!
