Joe, Id say they will be moving anywhere here in the next 2 weeks.

That being said, I am not a good "general area" rut hunter. Ive tried so many times to position myself between doe beds using the terrain, but my luck is few and far between. Some guys can do it, Im just not that good at it. I am a destination hunter. I go right to the beds and get close. If I burn it, I move on to the next one and come back if the conditions are right. The big woods have kicked my butt so many times that I have to be very specific.

Going for a hang and hunt tonight... it’s hot but a cold front is moving through tomorrow after it rains overnight, hoping they’ll be up feeding before dark

Alright it’s official I suck at mobile hunting, I ended up not dining much for sign mostly because it’s so thick in the area I was in I couldn’t get around without causing a bunch of noise... gotta scout these sections out more I guess

It's a battle for sure. everytime out is experience gained, even if you don't set up.

Don't get to discouraged this time of the year. I've had several scouts last year were I walked around and never found what I was looking for. Then i would set up for the last hour and never see anything. Just keep at it. The sign moves every week, you will know it when you find it.

I watched a good video from the hunting beast in which he discussed this very same thing. If you know you are hunting right and you're doing his best as you can, even if you don't see deer, keep at it. Keep stacking the odds in your favor

Did you see the video were he was talking about the deer eating the water weeds growing in the swamps? I think he called them Jewel weed? That is the exact stuff I have been hunting over for the last 2 years. They are destroying it right now. All the deer I have shot this year were eating it.

I'm gonna have to look that up. Next week I'll be back hunting the swamps for a few hunts

I will take a pic of it on my next hunt. It has little berry's on it right now, which I've never seen before. It grows in very shallow water, almost like bog ground. You can't see the water, but it very squishy when you walk on it.

Help me hunt this on a West/North/Northwest wind. Red outline is our property. There are trails everywhere on the north and south woods (no main trails all deer travel). 10-15 rows of the corn was combined this last week before it snowed. I am thinking of setting up in the corn on the South end at some point, but am looking to get in some trees for the rut. I see deer in my current spots almost every sit, but my spots are not great for the winds mentioned. If a mature buck came in distance I would likely get winded.

Going out after work to scout/prep a few locations close to work for hang and hunts, going to try to work my way to a few spots a fellow forum member pointed out on a map for me

Here is what the extended forecast/wind looks like for the next week+. Trying to figure out a gameplan for each day.
