Here is the online scouting I did for the archery only permit draw WMA that I drew this year. The first picture shows the land around the NE corner of the lake. This area immediately caught my eye because there are no boat launches nearby. The only way to access this land is by boat from the other side of the lake or being willing to hike in a ways. Pics didn’t upload for some reason. White lines are WMA boundaries. Purple lines are no hunting zone. Green shaded areas look to be oak flats for satellite imagery. Yellow lines are marked trails. Second pic is a close up of the spot I hunted last Sunday. Third pic is where I wanted to hunt but got out too late to hike that far in.
Another place you may want to check is the top left corner. It maybe over looked because of easy access. If those areas you marked are oak tree flats and are a destination food source, they may be bedding to the north off the property border? The deer would drop off the ridges in the evening and follow stream straight to the oaks. The stream heading to lake will pull all the thermals down to it in the evenings, making a perfect travel route for deer. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I hunted a draw right on the edge of the purple outlined no-hunt zone last Sunday. It is to the south of the parking area about 1.5 miles. Didn't see anything. I got out too late to hit the farther out spot to the west of the parking.
I had those same thoughts and I did notice that bench. Just have not had the time to dive in there and see if it holds true. My only concern about that corner would be that it is close to a popular hiking trail. Probably not a big deal in late season, but, I am in Arkansas and if the weather is pleasant in late October and November, all the hiking could shut down daylight movement.
You could still be surprised. I have one like that near my house. Always big bucks in there and usually within 100 yards of main trail that gets used every day. Some times deer just get use to it. I've never hunted this spot, but find big sheds in there. I too just have a fear of hunting close to the trail, but the sign and sheds don't lie! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Archey season goes until the end of February here. I will definitely keep that spot in mind if I get a chance to hunt again. My boys started playing hockey a couple of weeks ago. Saturday mornings are a no go for the rest of the season.
I went for my first walk of the season yesterday. Found a bunch of rubs, this was pretty high up the tree and found what look like some heavily used trails. Probably a good rut spot being the amount of traffic through this area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

alright guys now that the season is over my scouting for my first ever PA buck with a bow begins all over again.(been at this 14 years) I don't need the biggest buck in the woods, I have some private land that I will be hunting but those areas are over an hour away. I have a lot of pubic land around me and know there are deer on them. Ive killed plenty of does around this area over the years. My question is where would you guys begin the search if you were me, I want to take a whole new look at this property that I have been hunting for about 10 years, I could use a fresh perspective. My issue with the property is that it is almost impossible to get in deep where its hard to get to because there are easy hiking trails throughout the entire property.Where would you guys begin your scouting?
