Scouting on one of the bases I hunt doesnt open back up til Sept. I cant wait to scout this small pretty much land locked spot. Terrain wise and property line wise, mixed in with the pond to the west and lake to the east forces travel away from the private property....makes me believe the bucks will dump into that spot while cruising. I could see a couple hunts in there...dont want to over do it bc it is so small. Really hoping a major trail appears.
That looks killer! That's the stuff I like to hunt. Looks like might be a creek joining the 2 body's of water? If so it would work great to pull your thermals in a evening hunt. That creek would hopefully pull them to the pond and out into it. Hopefully some oak ridges around that lake Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That looks very similar to a spot I just found on some public near me that I want to get out to this week! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
My brother bought 120 acres today. Spent the day scouting it and putting cameras up. Oak hardwoods, corn, alfalfa, creeks, ponds, and swamps. Hasn’t been heavily hunted in 10+ years. Excited to see what comes out of it!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Somehow I over looked this trail, assumed it was just a water run off but there are tracks out the buns on this steep embankment. There is a fire pit and small shooting range right here as well, it’s kind of an odd spot to have so much traffic. I’m dropping a camera on it tomorrow, it’s literally 30 yards from where I can park on this property. I have half a mind to sit in the creek and hunt it early season when it’s still hot.
Well like a dumbass I missed one of my cameras and it has been out since January. These two made it thru last season on my farm here in Louisiana. Cameras are back out can’t wait to see what they look like this year.
While I would not recommend scouting in crocs and shorts. I ventured thru the prickly ash and found the spot. Will get out there this week and get a path mowed thru and prep the tree. It's on. I was uncertain if I was going to hunt this year, well today has me excited to get after it. I kicked the idea around of jerking the prickly ash with the skid loader and using it to block other paths but that is a bloody horrible idea. So glad I still have the walk behind deck mower, the beast is going to eat brush again.
8 bucks with 3 doe in the field last night. No pics these came out pretty late. One was a half rack and hard horned. The side he had left was out side his ear and 4 tall tines. We haven't seen him before. Well unless he damaged it in last month The other buck seemed to distance from him. The rest were all different sized 8 points. They must have had a great hiding spot last year... Also it dawned on me, all this early activity may be due to the large number of buck this year.
I'm thinking that we will explore the areas that I hunted the last two years. Maybe one other areas that the early season offers. I'm feeling a little bummed that I can't be hunting anymore after tagging out
