Any going to MD? Would give you a extra month of hunting in the early season.

I hunt state land now ... finished up last week(Fri) trimming 3 locations ... at the last location, I bent over to pick up a few small limbs and my back 'went out' .... SOB !! ... ... been in pain ever since ... slowly getting better .... just now was able to shoot 6 arrows finally today ..... Ive got a draw turkey hunt the end of the month and want to start fishing ... Ive had to lay off my running because of the back ...... I'm done 'scouting' till August when I combine squirrel hunting and deer scouting ... I'll concentrate on my distance running and fishing till then ... hell, I dragged out a huge buck last season by myself (a 1/2 mile recovery) and a big doe, no problems. been running since Jan. (40 yrs distance runner).. and all I did was bend over to grab a few limbs and it took me to my knees ....... WTF !! ...

I find when I'm driving a lot that it tightens my back like that and I have to be careful. I want a truck I can stand up in and drive like being strapped into a darn roller coaster.

As much as I wanted to do my HW this offseason, It just won't happen. I could probably force it, but now that grad school is starting in June, I have to keep my priorities straight. I need to focus all of my efforts on grad school for the next three years. I want to be the best prepared I can be for my future job in the VA hospital. I'm afraid that if I go out scouting now and find what I want to find in the woods, my focus will be there instead of school.

I'll still be out in the woods this fall most likely, but only to take a breather and spend some time with my Dad. Who knows, maybe I will have even more free time than in previous school years!

Good luck with school, I just finished. Once tags results come out, I'll put in the scouting.

I've been like you. Totally wrapped up in school. The fam is well and my new girlfriend and her kids all shoot archery, so we get out a lot. The older two are doing hunter's safety so they can put in next year. I've got new optics on the way and am just waiting for tag results.

Day 15. Scouted a section of a state forest. I could see a big boy hanging out in a spot like this area. So many places to hide in these big woods. Thought I finally found my Confederate army war bunker full of gold...dang it. I started to call all my dead relatives to tell them our 300 yr family financial curse was over. Lol....then found out it was Just some broke up concrete. Haha.

Day 16. Felt like I finally lucked into a good spot on a state forest. These things are tough to find remote areas and deer sign. I found both today. Also found a massive white oak and a massive beech tree. Starting to like the flexibility of the state forests and the ability to really scout and hunt, regardless of the day and time.

Don't be afraid to put a face to the name when you can. My main hunting area was a no the first visit as was the ground I picked up a couple seasons ago.

Once we get back to normal I'm going to bang on a couple doors myself. I have a couple places in mind.

Day 17. Pretty cool little spot. Boundary lines on the trees do not extend past the creek so anyone not looking at a map of the property wouldn't know the public extends about 150 yds over the creek to the base of some steep hills. Nothing stuck out bigtime sign wise except some still active scrapes with decent sized hoof prints. I'll prob throw a cam out there for a couple months to see if I can catch that buck(s) working an old overgrown two tract past the creek. Bet I'd have the spot all to myself . Love finding ditch crossings. 20200428_163427.jpg 20200428_160806.jpg 20200428_160759.jpg 20200428_163427.jpg

This is impossible...No matter how much I try NOT to think about hunting, I have dreams about hunting. Last night in my dream I was 20 feet up and a monster buck came through. It was so real. Ugh!!!
