got skunked tonight. all I seen was 2 red squirrels mating at the base of my tree. never seen that before!
Took my 6 year old son Evan with me to check cams and possibly but very unlikely still hunt. The constant "dad" probably ruin my hunting ground for years to come. Found Ila great spot to set up at though
I thought I was the only other guy in the country who bought a Shacket!! Lol Nice job "Couldn't think of a good Signature"
Is that Willy Wonka's magic golden ticket behind her ear? Congratulations on the big Ole doe. Just wondering if I need to get me a ticket as well?
Update on my hunt from Thursday night..... I stayed in stand until I was pretty well out of light in the woods, but knew there was a deer in the field about 20yrds away. So I climbed down and crawled my way to the fence, crawled under the fence and laid in some weeds, drew my bow, set up, and drilled a deer with what i thought was a perfect shot, slightly quarter away, right behind the shoulder, hit offside shoulder. Deer runs, and stumbles in the field, i was thinking awesome, 20yds from shot deer dead in sight..it gets up, very wobbly walks about 15 yards to the woods and in...thinking ok, should be dead in the woods, i go back to my stand and get my stuff, walk out to the field where my arrow is and drop my gear, take a breather, wait about 20 mins. I know there is a storm coming in so I go ahead and check blood in the field. Bright red blood, bubbles, sometimes 3ft wide, just amazing blood trail, it was dark and I could see the blood from 20yds away with my light, so I decide to go ahead and track. Get to the woods, still great blood, keep tracking, more blood and starting to see tissue mixed in the blood like lung pieces. Long story short I tracked for 2 hrs, ended up on the neighbors property in a grass lane, I have permission to drive back there anytime, so I go ahead and go get my truck, let my light charge for a little bit, and drive around, about the time I get to last blood, it is starting to rain. I track about 20 more yards and come to one last pile of blood, then just nothing...I quickly check weeds and field as much as I can, starts pouring rain and I have to call it so I don't get stuck in this field. Mark last blood and head home. Headed back out at sun up, all traces of blood are gone, last blood was about 15yds from waste high weeds, so I start my search there, it is about 50yds x 50yds or so, I walk it in straight lines back and forth about 5 ft apart, beds every where, check every one, no sign of fur, blood, guts etc....farmer shows up, to disc his field, talk to him for a bit and he un-hooks his tractor and rides around all the field while I'm searching on foot. He rode around for close to 2 hrs checking and rechecking, I checked every inch of weeds, ditches and a little wood draw...found 1 clump of hair with no blood on it....I'm at a loss of words for how far this deer ran, with how much blood was lost.... That is my arrow and last blood.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was pretty well mentally and physically drained yesterday by the time I got home....gonna take the next week off from hunting and let my property cool down a bit, and let my self get refocused, I've never not recovered a deer before, I've lost meat, but never not recovered....I tracked too soon is only thing I can come up with, but under the circumstances of the storm coming in, and the amount of blood on the ground, I can't say anyone wouldn't have done it the same way..... After reading that Wesley I'm with ya. I don't know what else you could've done either. Let's say a Mountain Lion took it. If we have them in Missouri, I'm sure you have them in Iowa.
Pack of yotes would be more believable, had 2 different packs sounding off before that storm hit.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
