Get caught with a .22, silenced or not, while bow hunting here and you'll lose everything in your posession that day and then some.

I've thought about a sling shot for sure though

Here you can't have any weapon in posession while in the act of hunting that is not legal to take the intended game with. Concealed carry is now legal if you have a license.

My thoughts of a sling shot orobably aren't legal either as I think they are classified as a weapon and even included in the wildlife code for certain species.

One thing I wonder, is can you hunt squirrel(seasons run simultaneously) with a bow and .22 and take a deer with the bow if given the chance. You can take a squirrel with a bow while deer hunting, but can you take a deer with a biw while squirrel hunting?

Laws keep the honest confused and the dishonest dishonest.

Right now your sheriff needs to sign off on one, but you still have to go through the ATF process and that in itself is long and drawn out.

Not as simple as you might think it is....

Anyhow, straying off topic. Sorry everyone

times like these are what makes you a man and a seasoned veteran bowhunter. there is no learning curve by hunting on preserves or sanctuary areas where animals are fairly tame. times like these are the most trying times to see what you are made of. you either get back to it or give in. the choice is yours. you may not have been rewarded by retrieving your buck but you were rewarded knowledge. you now know what you need to work on from this experience. you also learned what it takes to gain permission to access properties and different tools to use to possibly find deer in the future. I say you did well! get your head back in the game it's what you love to do! anyone that has bowhunted a long time has lost plenty of deer. if they say they haven't then they are lying or haven't hunted very long. keep at it adam I'm behind you all the way!

Bit of devils advocate, and by no means taking away from his efforts.

I think a dog would recover the deer, he can't locate a trained tracker so not much more he can do. Saying that, I believe that deer is dead obviously. Single lunged deer can go upwards of a mile.

My concern is not on this deer anymore, but that it is his third lost deer. Whether they all survive or not, there is reason for concern. Either his equipment or his shot preparation/routine is lacking.

I say this as constructive criticism, but that is too many wounded and unrecovered animals over several weeks. Whether it is rushing the shot, improper form or just plain "buck fever" a change is needed before loosing another arrow.

I hope alenhard15 understands I am not belittling him or calling him out, I have lost several deer myself, but inly offering constructive criticism. As much as we owe it to the deer to recover them, we also owe it to the animal to make them recoverable by making sure every shot counts.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way, but by no means should any of us continue to wound our prey until we get it right without figuring out what is going wrong.

I understand completely cls, I did that after the first deer I hit with my bow this year wasn't recovered, one of the three was with my crossbow and just ended up hitting shoulder and not getting penetration. The doe that I hit with my actual bow I made an iffy shot and picked up the trail way too soon. And as for this buck this was another my error, I ranged the spot for 30 yards and he was actually 33-35 yards putting the arrow about 2 inches lower than I wanted it. Although I feel extremely defeated from this experience I blame this one on the miscalculation of yardage, I assure you I will be ranging much more often from the stand from now on. As far as the equipment goes I did as you recommended after the doe and got my bow tuned and the bow tech said I have string stretch so I'm actually only drawing 64lbs and my nocking point was too high causing my arrow to come out funny and lose penetration. He fixed that for me though so I don't believe it is equipment error

As long as you are confident in yourself and your setup not much more can be asked. We all need to be sure of that and remember not to fool ourselves into thinking we can when we have any doubts.

Time and practice is the only thing that changes your luck. Keep practicing until that time comes.

Until it counts, it doesn't count. It is up to us to make sure it counts.
